As a lifetime patron of the Black Horse Pub/ Tavern; I had the chance to review it for the first time since it finished its “remodel” after three years of work.

I grew up in Mendham and lived there for 30 years (1970-1999). All through HS and countless reunions. I must say that the set up is almost identical.

Service was great, except for waiting for the maître / hostess to bring me to an open table in a virtually empty at the time Pub at 4:45pm, but for perhaps 15 others.

Service was very good. Thank you to my server. As for the food; pricey. The seating was AWEFUL and crowded. I was never more cramped in my booth adjacent to the white granite Like top. Crab cakes were good, but had little sauce. Requested extra. The appetizer cold crabmeat and what tasted like a mix of salmon came with horrible “Premium” Crackers. Cheep and stale. What would have been better would have been a Carr’s crackers or roasted bread. My roast chicken sandwich on a baked greatness dry.

Because the booth seating was SOOO bad, I’d rather not return. Four appetizers and a chicken sandwich and drinks [one mix, two beers and two inexpensive Cabernets], I would NOT recommend it for much more then drinks and they no longer have colossal shrimp appetizers.

Everything was wonderful, except the atmosphere was loud.

Apps were just average . The chicken dish was tasty. The desserts were nothing to rave about

Delicious food and cocktails! 🤤 The French onion soup is amazing along with the crab cakes! They give you two!

My 1st experience dining at The Black Horse Tavern & Pub was above my expectations! My boyfriend had heard the food had gone down hill. Let me tell you, not the case. I am in the hospitality industry, and was impressed from the moment I walked into this historic landmark.
Our bartender, Antonio, was truly a super star! He was the only person behind the bar during a huge lunch crowd, tending to patrons at the bar, but also making the service bar cocktails. Never once did I see or hear him complain roll his eyes get agitated, as he was doing his job with a smile on his face at all times. He was genuine and sincere. Not to mention I adored his hair!
After speaking with one of the managers, Katie, emphasizing that was probably the best wedge salad I have ever had. The lettuce was like butter, chicken was beyond tender. The salad was dressed to perfection! It was the highlight of my day! I am going to attempt to copy it tonight, but I don’t think I can even come close!
My boyfriend raved about his cheeseburger. We cannot wait to come back!
Thank you for a fabulous meal!

I had their fish and chips and I like it made with haddock the most. That is the way they did it for me. My wife had an amazing steak sandwiches. She said it was one of the best she has ever had. The staff was attentive, well trained, and excellent.

Been here once before & the food was great....today the Cobb salad had no cucumbers, the bacon was hard & burnt, I got one cherry tomato, they had no Honey mustard, no Swiss cheese...the salad was horrible.....Ordered French fries they were cold....My friend ordered the Chicken Pot Pie...there was no pastry on top...they put a Tortilla on top with a bunch of shredded lettuce on top of the tortilla...what the hell do you call that? The Food was horrible...& to top it off ordered a cup of tea & all they had was decaf herbal teas...Will never return & waste my money ...

This place never disappoints. It was my first time there since the renovation and they really leveled up! The food is great and the atmosphere is so warm and inviting. The waitress had wonderful recommendations, too. I'll definitely be going back so I can try some more food options!

I have been here several times over the years. Ambience, service and food has always been good. After Covid though I think they change ownership and it wasn’t as great as the previous management. So hopefully when they reopen they will be able to bring back their former glory. My all time favorite were their fried zucchini. Love it.

Solid choices. They need competition. Closing for awhile let's see what

Closed till Fall 2024 for renovations. We had a good afternoon, martinis and oysters were delicious. Service was okay, not friendly but competent.

Good local spot with decent pub food where some dishes are definitely better than others. We always preferred the Tavern over the pub for the menu choices and the quality of the food but it seems that the tavern was a victim of Covid - now only available for private rentals. The pub has good burgers but another traditional pub option, the fish and chips, was disappointing the one time I tried it. The word is that they are closing down everything from March through the summer for some needed renovations. I’ll be looking forward to seeing hopefully an improved atmosphere and menu.

Food was okay and the service was fine. It's definitely a family place. It was a bit too noisy for my liking but the waitress was nice and seating was a bit tight.
