I visited the Metuchen Diner with my dad on Thursday, March 27, and we both greatly enjoyed the experience. We were slightly worried about a lunch rush, going around noon (11:30 to be more precise), but the restaurant was spacious and not overly crowded. Parking is normally difficult with its small lot, but there is ample additional parking in the back, and on the day we visited we had no problem finding a spot. The service was great and very quick, only taking about 15 minutes from ordering to get our food. Our server Mariola was especially kind and cheerful, asking about our day and giving us some menu recommendations! Both my dad and I ordered off of the lunch special menu, which provided great value, giving us a cup of soup, as well as a dessert with our orders at a flat price of $13.50 (not bad for the rising prices in food across the country). I ordered the turkey Reuben, and my dad opted for the hickory chicken sandwich. They also have a set menu for seniors which offers the same deals as the lunch menu and is a nice option for older customers. I got Matzo Ball soup to start, and my dad chose split peas; both were good. The matzo ball was on the denser and drier side of the matzah ball soups I've had. Overall, the food was good, nothing exceptional, but very satisfactory and enjoyable. The portions, even for a lunch menu, were generous, and we both found ourselves taking home the rest of our meals. The coleslaw in the turkey Reuben instead of the traditional sauerkraut was light and refreshing. The diner was lively and very clean. The booth seating was comfortable (there is a good mixture of booths and tables throughout the restaurant), and we found it to be a nice place to talk and catch up. If you are in the area and in the mood for classic and affordable diner food, I recommend checking out the Metuchen Diner.

Came here to order out corned beef and cabbage on St Patrick;s Day. What a mistake that was. I told the person who answered the phone that I wanted the dinner portion with bread. I was ordering for another person. When I arrived at the diner, the girl at the register wrung me out for a lunch. They couldn't even get the order right. She said they would just add more to the tray to make it a dinner portion. Oh yeah. They did. They added a pound of cabbage to the tray!!! Unbelievable. They got a couple pieces of corned beef, 3 small sliced potatoes that didn't even equal 1/2 of a whole potato,a bunch of peas and carrots and a ton of cabbage!!!!. Wow! I couldn't believe it!! Neither could the people I got it for. What a rip off. This diner has gone way down hill. I know I wont be returning and neither will they.

Sadly my daughter in law wanted the kids pancakes..the waitress said you don’t qualify. I wanted a 2 egg omelette and was charged the same as a three egg omelette..there was no age on the kids menu…I have ordered from chipotle kids menu with NO questions asked! Net net. I feel the waitress wanted to pump up the menu for a bigger tip..we were there Saturday late morning..that’s ok..she got the tip she deserved…

Today I ordered out. I got scrambled eggs well done with sausage. My eggs were very runny and egg shells were all in my eggs. I never have a problem when I come to this diner but today, was my worst experience. I won't be going back again.

It's a diner! Solid Jersey diner, better than most of the country but par for the course here -- menu is not 38 pages long so not 10,000% traditional but what they've got is great.

food was kinda mid. extravagantly mid. it wasn’t horrible but wasn’t amazing either. i wish i took a picture, but i ordered a breakfast sandwich and it didn’t even come as a sandwich. it was open. what’s the point of me putting my own sandwich together. i got sausage thinking it would be a patty because it’s a SANDWICH but they were links. the service was decent though, coffee was good.
