We’ve been enjoying Larocca for a number of years now however last night’s dinner experience was a disappointment. While still eating our apps with my son, our entrées arrived early. We were still eating our appetizers and I had to ask the waiter to return to the kitchen. By the time we got our main course my steak was somewhat l Lukewarm. Although a manager asked how everything was, I hesitated to say anything as I’m not one to speak in front of other patrons. My advice is just get timing, right

The food, especially the ribeye steak, was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. However, the service was quite slow, even the check took about seven minutes to arrive. The main course also came out later than expected. The place was a bit noisy, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Overall, great food but the service definitely needs more attention and improvement.

Nice cozy vibe but pretty noisy and the service was slow. Food came out really late, and the chairs weren’t comfy. Zeugma Grill has much better service and a more comfortable setup.

Went here after attending the Montclair Jazz Festival and without reservations on a Saturday night. We were able to be seated which set the tone for our dinner. As for the food it was amazing and the specials for the day were excellent. I had a Papadelle with some braised pork and the person I was with had the Risotto and a Halibut steak. We both left with our stomachs full. Nice quiet place off the beaten path of Montclair!
👍👍👍👍👍

Our favorite consistently
exceptional dining experience.
It never gets old. Everything on the menu is delicious and love the rotating specials.
Robert and Caroline have created and maintained an institution that is as welcoming and warm as it is casually elegant.
We remain so grateful that Giotto returned in this remarkable incarnation to the most perfect space in Montclair!

We were excited about having dinner at LaRocca since the reviews have always been very good to outstanding. We had dinner on Sunday August 31st knowing it was a Labor Day weekend night but hoping it may be a bit quieter on a Sunday. The place was packed - even on a Sunday night, so we knew it must be a good place. We had our hearts set on some selection since we reviewed the menu prior to going. This is where the disappointment came in. We had 7:30pm reservations so we expected we could get anything on the menu. Unfortunately, LaRocca was already out of a popular appetizer (Shrimp rolled in a filo dough with Brie) and a main course of Lamb Shank. Ok, so I asked for the Halibut and my wife order a pasta dish with claims, mussels Shrimp and calamari. Uh-oh out of Halibut and no more mussels, claims or calamari! So we decided on other dishes which weren't our top selections. I ordered the octopus as an appetizer since I don't see that on many restaurant menus. Not the best I've had - it was chewy and rubbery with little flavor. A good octopus should be tender and flavorful! Our main dishes were good but not over the top. Dessert of pistachio cake was very good - but we didn't come to enjoy just dessert. I realize it was a holiday weekend, maybe the chef underestimated the food needed for these nights BUT that should not be an excuse. Do we give them another chance - Maybe.

We'd been trying to get a reservation at this place for years so we were thrilled when friends invited us to go with them this evening. Their reservation was for 8 pm which turned out to be the worst time possible. The place was packed even though it was Sunday night on Labor Day weekend. That being said, we ordered off the regular menu and the specials. They offered a Chicken Thigh special - were told later that there was no more left, so we had to order something else. I ordered the pasta made with crab meat, lobster and shrimp - also not available. They were making it with clams, scallops and shrimp that night. Had no crab meat or lobster. We ordered the Artichoke salad - definitely didn't taste at all like artichokes - they were shredded and had no flavor except lemon and heavy oil - wouldn't recommend. Wound up ordering the Rack of lamb - worst lamb i've ever eaten and I order this whenever I see it on a restaurant menu. Was like old mutton - chewy, tough and hard to cut even with a steak knife. Overall a very disappointing evening. Wouldn't go back.
