Service was fine, atmosphere was good, but the food was very mediocre for what you pay. I expected better sushi for a $50.00 platter. I could tell the sushi was premade and probably sat in the fridge. The rice was hard, cold and no flavor. They also gave too much of it, which ruined the sushi. For a chef's selection, I expected better, especially when shop rite sushi tasted better. The tiramisu was just a tray they bring to your table and plop a scoop onto a plate.

The Pros:
The sticky ribs were great, ambiance was really nice.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review for MM by Morimoto

I dined at MM by Morimoto about a month ago, and let me tell you — this place is truly a Montclair gem. The drinks were amazing, the sushi rolls were next level, and every single dish had so much flavor. We ordered the lobster and the black cod, and both were absolutely delicious.

For dessert, we had the tiramisu, which they brought out in the actual baking dish — and it tasted like your Grandma made it with love. Light, creamy, and unforgettable.

Beyond the food, the aesthetics of this place are unmatched. The vibe, the energy, the presentation — everything comes together so beautifully.

If you're in Montclair, this is a must-eat spot. Highly recommend!

One of the best meals I have ever had. Every serving seemed like a work of art. The sticky ribs and the surf and turf roll are must haves.

We love this restaurant. The food and service were fantastic, the staff very friendly and knowledgable. For those who want a Tokyo-style hip and delicious dining experience a la Chef Morimoto we recommend MM Morimoto!

Wonderful food and friendly service. Music was loud which limited my conversation with my friends.

Greedy. My wife changed her mind and we canceled within 5 minutes of making the reservation. Restaurant still charged me $30. Greedy. Greedy. Do not recommend

Solid spot for sure. Pricey but you get what you pay and this place doesn't disappoint. I've been to a few Morimoto's so I anxiously awaited the opening of this new location as it more convenient for me than the others. The sushi was top notch and my Australian wagyu was next level amazing! Next time, I think I'll order a tomahawk steak or prime rib as I saw a few other people having them and they looked great too. Regretted not ordering one but I'll be back for sure and not as the DD, saki was on point!

What’s up with the service? We felt extremely rushed. I told our waiter a couple of times to pace our food but everything showed up within 5 minutes of ordering.

Our bill showed up before we even finished our drinks. Pretty lousy for the upscale positioning! With service like this - everything else becomes secondary.

I wanted to love this place, but the food was kind of gross, and the service was terrible. I thought this would be on the same level as Nobu, I was sadly mistaken.

This place deserves 5 stars however I just couldn’t give it to them on account of their hostess. When I arrived with my wife, my brother and his fiancé were already there. We were celebrating his birthday plus my 9 yr anniversary to my wife. We walked to the hostess stand and there was a couple being helped. Mind you this was a Wednesday night so not busy but not quiet. It took a good 4 minutes before the hostess even acknowledged us. When she finally looked up I said I’m meeting my brother and gave the name. She said just a moment and decided in that moment to start putting out new business cards on the table. After another 5 minutes of standing there very awkwardly I said can you just point me in the direction of their table. She finally said sure and walked us back. I told the story to my brother when we got to the table after almost 10 minutes and he then told me how they had a reservation for only 2 people even though we all got the invite for 4 and was kind of giving his an issue before they sat down. It was all very weird and not the welcome we expected and really put a sore in the whole experience.
Anyway… the food was all incredible. We shared a bunch of appetizers and sushi and did sort of a tasting. We had around 12 dishes that we all got to try some bites of. Some of my favorite dishes were The sticky rib, the way beef and shrimp tempura roll, & the beef tartare. Everything was great and I highly recommend this place.

Our dinner at MM by Morimoto was exceptional from start to finish. There were three of us, and every dish we ordered was absolutely outstanding — truly 5-star plus. The flavors, presentation, and attention to detail were top-notch. Service was impeccable — attentive, professional, and perfectly timed without ever feeling rushed.

An unforgettable dining experience. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend MM by Morimoto to anyone looking for an elevated, memorable meal.

I finally went to try MM for myself despite hearing mediocre reviews from friends. They seated us at a table without a reservation, which was wonderful, since we fully expected to have to sit at the bar. The service was decent, and our waiter made some recommendations. However, the food was a major disappointment. The sticky ribs were good, but with way too much decorative saffron. The maki roll I had was both sticky and mushy. My partner's tofu croquette looked as unappetizing as it tasted, as did my cut of prime rib. (Apparently, they cook it sous vide, so it can be a challenge to bring it up to serving temperature. Mine was cold and an odd color that improved only after sitting on the plate, uneaten, for a while.) I tried the black cod instead, and it was just okay--a bit too salty, and I like salt.

The general manager was lovely and apologetic. However, there is a zero percent chance we will be giving MM a second chance. (My three stars are all about the food itself, which should shine in a place owned by a Michelin-starred chef.) I hate to say it because I love to support the Montclair food scene, but don't waste your money. There are other places that fill this culinary niche better.
