Nothing… but good things to say about this place. Seriously. Not only was our food vivacious, extraordinary, and a religious experience for the palate — our server, Sam, was nothing but helpful and attentive throughout our entire meal. He was incredibly inviting and warm (this guy should do stand up) and our experience would not have been the same without him. Now for the food. The flavors… where do I even begin? Rich. Luxurious. Multi-faceted. Whether it’s a poke bowl or a shrimp tempura roll you are guaranteed a transformative experience. When eating here, be ready for excellence. No joke. 11/10 will be coming back. Additionally, the atmosphere in this niche underground Montclair spot was nothing short of perfection. Both the songs and the beautiful views of the raw bar were essential to our wonderful experience. Till next time Sushi Koshi.

The rolls for two is an amazing deal and we added an extra special roll to round out our meal. Yummy but be prepared to wait for a table when it’s busy. Highly recommend the purple or mixed rice!

Insiders Table

My family had tried Sushi Koshi previously, and really liked it, so they brought me in to try it. They don’t take reservations, so you have to go in person and write your name down. The restaurant is very small and so everyone who is paying or waiting for a table is crowded in the center space. The food came fairly quickly, but not all of our main courses arrived at the same time.

Miso Soup - the miso soup was fine, very average. There wasn’t any tofu or seaweed in it which I found peculiar. It also tasted a bit too watery.

Teriyaki Bento Box - the teriyaki bento box was perfect because it came with teriyaki chicken, cucumber rolls, salad with ginger dressing, miso soup, and dumplings. The dumplings tasted good, but they were a bit too fried. The salad looked very sad. It had greenish brown pieces of leaves topped with the smallest amount possible of the dressing. The teriyaki chicken was perfect, it was the perfect flavor and there was a big portion.

Sushi koshi roll- The sushi koshi roll was a big portion (10 pieces), and had two different fish on the top. Both of the types of sushi tasted pretty similar, but I personally liked the flavor of the crab and the mayo topping. Personally, I feel like it was too many flavors to taste all of them individually, but they worked together.

Blooming roll- the blooming roll was nice, but there was too much dressing on top. It felt like the spicy tuna dominated most of the flavor, and I couldn't taste the white fish.

Mango Tango roll- the mango tango roll was my least favorite one that we had tried, because I got a strong taste of cilantro and cucumber which did not blend well with the rest of the roll. I would have preferred the flavor of the mango to be stronger because I would not have known that I was eating a mango roll if no one had told me.

Such a cozy, little spot with the most delicious sushi! My boyfriend and I have been coming here for years and always order the roll for 2! It comes with so much and they even give you a complimentary ice cream treat at the end (sometimes). We will never go anywhere else!

The food was delicious. It was a super cute little environment. We went there for my friends birthday. They gave her a dessert for free. I got a dancing eel roll. It was $16 and I was full so I was happy with it. I had so much fun and it was so so yummy

Came here on a Saturday afternoon in October between lunch and dinner and mostly had the place to ourselves. We weren't too hungry, but got some sushi, sashimi and a roll and it was all delicious! The fish was fresh and the sushi well prepared. On top of that the staff was extremely friendly and the food was fairly priced in my opinion. Will be back!

The best sushi place I’ve ever been to. I went with my friends and we paid a fair price for a lot of sushi. Shout out to Tyler for being so nice to us.
