We ordered pick up and to be honest it was completely horrible we both got sick which is why I am writing this review because it was so bad , even the white rice was burnt and hard , food was greasy and slimmy , really disappointed we have eaten her before and I don't know what happened

Not sure why this place has such a high rating. It was by far the worst Chinese food we've had. We ordered delivery. It arrived cold. The pork in the wonton soup was raw and undercooked, the egg roll was awful, the pork fried rice was old, cold, and very dark. We chose this place bc of the high star rating. Pricey, it cost over $72 for most of it going in the garbage. Never, ever again.

The food was really good, but the wait time was kind of long. and the atmosphere gets three stars.

The Montclair location is comfortable. Service is good. It’s always busy when we go. The food is good and it is a classic Chinese restaurant that you recall on big portions. It’s a good go too if you’re looking for some classic Chinese.

RACIST! DO NOT COME HERE! RACIST ESTABLISHMENT!
I called & the lady who answered said they close at 9. I arrive an hour & a half before they close with my girlfriend. People walk in before me and get seated. As soon as I walk up, the woman says “We are not seating anymore”. RIGHT AFTER I watched the family before me get seated. I asked was it because of my complexion & she brushed me off.
I left & sat in the parking lot for 10 minutes. While I waited, watched other groups of people walk in and not leave the establishment. Those groups of people were NOT my complexion! I will never forget this disgusting experience again!

While in NYC for an event, we were craving higher-end Chinese food but didn't want to pay the exorbitant prices for Peking Duck and struggle to find parking. Luckily I remembered Hunan Taste in Montclair, that I I've been wanting to try. We high-tailed it out of the December holiday madness of NYC and went straight to Hunan Taste. It reminded me of the Jade Fountain in North Arlington or other "fancier" Chinese restaurants that serve hot tea with crispy wontons with duck sauce and mustard sauce. They were so good, our table devoured two bowls.
We loved the decor, spacious layout, super-comfy seating and black carpeting. It really helped to dampen the noise and we weren't all crammed next to other tables like you would see in NYC.
Their fried dumplings and soup dumplings were as good as can be. Their Peking duck, delicious and the skin was perfect.
Their hot and sour soup was hands-down the best I ever had, very unique. Much thicker with a perfect balance of ingredients.
We ordered more beef dishes & I forget the names since we ordered too much food. Their portions of beef are extremely generous, not like most Chinese restaurants that try to skimp on the meat and bury them in vegetables.
Loved the hot steamed towels at the end and we had so much food to bring home, they carefully packed several containers right at our table for us, which I loved. They didn't pack it in the kitchen or just leave us with containers to do it ourselves. I had to tip the lovely waitress just for her time spent packing all of our food so lovingly.
However, with all of that said, there was one really bad experience...the dessert. We ordered the deep fried ice cream.
That's a hard item to find at any restaurant so whenever we encounter it, we get it but this is where the love affair ended.
It was horrible. It was nothing like we ever had. the dough was soft, undercooked and raw, not even crispy. It was just mush over ice-cream. I hope this was a one-off mistake and not how they serve it all the time.
In summary, we didn't come there for the dessert. We came for the food and ambiance and weren't disappointed one bit and their service was superb. Definitely worth visiting.

Not Bad
I went to the Hunan Taste in Montclair last month for my disabled father’s birthday. We were welcomed by the kindest young lady. Since my father is on a wheelchair we were worried there could be troubles sitting down but the hostess went above and beyond to make sure my father was comfortable and happy for his special day. I think her name was Yovita. The service was outstanding. The food was very good you can tell how authentic it was. Great experience!!!!

I hosted a party here, and it was amazing! The place was so nice—super clean and had a great atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful the entire time. The food was delicious, and my guests couldn’t stop raving about it. Everything went perfectly, and I’ll definitely be coming back. Thanks to the team for making my event so special!

We have been eating at Hunan for three years. They server consistently very good quality and service. The same employees have been working there for 3 years which also tells a lot. Give it a try. They portions are generous and is reasonably priced.
