The food is alright but the younger black woman behind the register is super rude :/ everyone else who works here is great though
Richard.....We wanted to LIKE Red Eye Cafe however a 2nd visit continued to reveal inconsistencies. The breakfast grub was good as was the coffee. Areas of improvement: Our server could have projected a more welcoming persona. Our server did not return to inquire about our breakfast. Our plates remained on the table after we had finished eating. We had to ask for a coffee top off. There were no words of either "welcome to Red Eye' nor " have a good day, see you again..."Frankly, I left a generous tip anyway. These minor issues are important to me; I prefer not to be a repeat customer if the server appears disinterested.
we pop in quite often the coffee is first rate with very friendly staff baked goods are always fresh
Food is good, but the cashiers there have an attitude, and would often sass me if I asked them a question
My first time in this part of Montclair. Since I arrived at 12.15 pm, there was never ending influx of customers for a good 2 hours. As busy as this restaurant is, we were not rushed and we fully enjoyed our food while enjoying our conversations. They serve a Good variety of sandwiches, soups and salads. I must say, The butter squash soup and Cuban Sandwich are absolutely delicious. I would definitely go back again.
Walking by at first you might not think much of it but once you look inside you will be pleasantly surprised. Not a large place but very cozy and the decor is warm especially if you like wood and subway tile. We came looking for a brunch place and TripA gave this place a lot of reviews and a 4. The greeting was warm and friendly. We got there early enough so we didn't have a wait. The menu covered all the usual brunch things. I went for the eponymously named Corned beef Hash and Red Eye gravy. It was very good and not your typical has. Large chunks of meet rather than the usual shredded beef. The gravy was rich with a tiny bit of kick.
We walked inside and realized the acoustics were such that it would be hard to talk. So we sat in the little alleyway outside which was fine until we needed the check. Then the waitress disappeared. Chicken salad and tuna salad sandwiches were good. Potato salad was with a vinaigrette no mayo. Potatoes were a bit underdone. Had a large cookie to go. Overall not bad. Glad we sat outside though.

I needed to complete a dramatic creative prose for an event that was fast approaching, was hungry and looking for an inviting place to write. Red Eye was the perfect spot! Not only was the food deliciously prepared and the waiter engaging and fun, the vibe of the place was perfect for what I needed to finish my work. Oh yes, I shall return but with friends and family next time!!
What a great find and delicious meal! You must try the Mexican breakfast item with egg and tortilla and black beans with pico. It was excellent

good vibes, was a little more upscale for Diners, had a good meal and great coffee, would go back, a little pricey as everything in Montclair is.
Very good food, good service & they are NOT in a hurry to get you out the door. Very good casual dining.
I'm not sure if it's the cozy atmosphere, or that the eggs are prepared and seasoned particularly well, but this is great spot for breakfast. Homey and great tasting dishes.
We've had lunch. Beautiful, fresh salads and sandwiches. Flavorful soup. Attentive, friendly service. Not too much atmosphere, but the food is great! Weekday lunches are not crowded. For weekend lunches, you may have to wait for a table.
Great food breakfast lunch and smoothies
