Toros used to be our go-to place for every special celebration. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was very disappointing.

The quality of the food has really declined. My favorite, the Mix Meze Platter, was bland and flavorless. The hummus was honestly the worst I’ve ever had. completely tasteless and definitely not worth the $30.

We ordered Hünkar Beğendi, which was listed as lamb, but what we received was clearly beef. I asked the waitress again, but she insisted it was lamb. The difference was obvious in both taste and texture.

The Adana kebab lacked its signature flavor, and the shish kebab was tough and full of gristle. The service wasn’t bad, but I was surprised they charged for tea. Turkish restaurants usually offer tea as a complimentary gesture.

It felt like the old restaurant was gone and replaced by something entirely different. We left feeling very disappointed.

First off I want to say that this Toros here in Montclair, cannnot and will Not compare to the Toros in Clifton NJ. About a 1/3 of the employees there look extremely miserable. Nobody seems organized, a simple
Order as to just slice a fish down the middle of the belly like a spatchcock chicken cut style. Instead I get a branzino fish massacred on one side criss crossed like a 2 year old took a butter knife and stabbed it and thought the fish was a Tic-Tac board.thats not the worst part of the whole Branzino fish that I ordered to also please be slice from belly open , on top of all of that the fish Which was whole and only cut (Massacred) on one side was also not fully cooked and had the taste that just didn’t settle well With me. They have 5 waiters all basically sharing each tables attention and completely unorganized. I don’t plan, Nor will I recommend this location to anybody ever!! Clifton Hands down is by far the most Authentic Toros In NJ ..

The more convenient place for me than the Clifton London, although I like the atmosphere of the Clifton restaurant a little better. The food though is always good and service is pretty attentive either or not they are busy. The Montclair spot has a very nice outdoors seating section in the back.
Parking can be iffy as it's on-street and there are other restaurants in the area and close spaces seem to get taken quickly. However, if you don't mind a small walk there are plenty of lots and side streets in the area, just mind the meter requirements.

If you’re looking for delicious Turkish food, affordable prices, attentive and friendly customer service, then definitely try Toros.
It’s my first time in this location (I’ve been to Clifton before) and again I had a great dining experience!!!

I came during lunch time and ordered the lunch special which includes salad or soup, appetizer and an entree, for $17.99. The lamb was cooked to perfection, the hummus was so creamy and with the fresh bread, it was all I needed!!! :)

I then ordered desserts (not included on the lunch special). Had the almond pudding and the pistachio rolls, both worth to try. Nothing where was overly sweet.

Toros is always a great idea!! I can’t wait to go back and try more dishes

If you’re craving authentic Mediterranean and Turkish cuisine in Montclair, NJ, look no further than Toros Mediterranean Turkish Cuisine. Established in 1972, this gem has been serving up consistently delicious and memorable dishes, and it certainly lives up to its reputation. My wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining here, and we were absolutely blown away by the entire experience — from the impeccable service to the vibrant atmosphere and the incredibly fresh, flavorful food.

We kicked off our meal with the Mixed Appetizer Platter, a wonderful sampler of six items, each bursting with unique flavors. The Patlican Salatasi (charcoal-grilled eggplant mashed with garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil) was smoky and savory, and the Zeytinyagli Yaprak Dolma (grape leaves stuffed with a flavorful mix of rice, onions, pine kernels, and herbs) was delicate yet satisfying. The Hummus was creamy and rich, enhanced by Toros’s signature blend of herbs, and the Babaganus (smoked eggplant puree with garlic and sesame oil) had the perfect balance of earthiness and depth. The Lebni (creamed yogurt with garlic, dill, and walnuts) was light and tangy, while the Patlican Soslu (eggplant, tomatoes, red peppers, and garlic in a special tomato sauce) was a delightful burst of flavors that tied everything together. Every bite was fresh and expertly prepared.

For our main courses, I opted for the Toros Karisik, a combo plate featuring a perfectly grilled Izgara Kofte, a half portion of Adana, chicken, Shish and Doner Kebab. The variety of meats was cooked to perfection — juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. My wife, a fan of chicken, chose a special order of beef kebabs instead of lamb, and she was thoroughly impressed with how tender and flavorful they were. The portion sizes were generous, and we were more than satisfied without feeling overwhelmed.

Beyond the food, the service at Toros was exceptional. The staff was attentive, friendly, and eager to ensure we had a great dining experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, with a traditional Turkish vibe that adds to the overall charm.

Overall, Toros Mediterranean Turkish Cuisine is a must-visit if you’re in Montclair. We genuinely believe it deserves a rating closer to the 4.8 range. The combination of great food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it stand out in the area. Plus, with good portions and fair prices, it’s well worth the visit. We can’t wait to come back and explore more of their menu!
