Nothing wrong with this place but, if you are looking for some good food this may not be the place. But, if you are doing a casual lunch I would recommend it.

What a lovely restaurant! Went there with two gal pals and everything was perfectly delicious and mindful. Truly an intimate experience, our server was so knowledgeable about all the dishes. The bread and butter was a work of art, chicken fried mushrooms blew my mind. Friends got steak and cod and both loved. Overall a perfect way to dine on a Friday night.

My husband and I just had the most amazing and unique meal at this total hidden gem in Montclair. The fusion of Filipino and Italian crafted by the genius chef-owner creates such a delicious dinner experience. Not your ordinary menu at all. A home made kettle potato chip with caviar and crème fraiche was our fabulous appetizer. The gnocchi main dish was sublime. The Thai Ice Tea Tiramisu was one of the best desserts we’ve ever had- refreshing, delicate, not too sweet. Cannot recommend this gem highly enough, especially if you want a delicious departure from the usual Italian.

I have hosted 3 parties at Walnut Street Kitchen, each 20 plus people. All 3 parties experienced great food and service. I also eat there quite frequently, one of my go to restaurants. I have enjoyed brunch and dinner, never been disappointed. Food is amazing, delicious and some dishes so creative. Owner is a gem, always checks on you and personally oversees each dish. Am already planning next get together at this fabulous restaurant.

TLDR: amazing food, especially the salads, want to come back and eat everything on the menu

Longer version: I was in the mood for something a little different, and the menu at Walnut Street Kitchen called to me. I knew I wanted the Filipino chicken kebabs and snap pea salad, and then there were two specials that stood out—potatchos and a winter citrus salad. We made a meal out of small plates/appetizers and were completely filled up.

Every dish was better than the last, and each bite was amazing. The salads/vegetables were incredible, and I LOVED the chicken kebabs while my husband (who doesn’t love fish roe) devoured the potatchos special (which was liberally sprinkled with roe). We haven’t even gotten to the entrees yet, but I have my eye on several dishes lol.

We also got the Thai tea tea-ramisu for dessert, and omg, we need to come back and try everything on the dessert menu. I’m sad we haven’t been here sooner.

The decor is cute; the atmosphere is welcoming; and it’s just a lovely local place that I wish more people knew about. Highly recommend.

Edit: oh the owner/chef Beverly stopped by to chat, and she’s LOVELY. She talked about her food inspiration and how she organizes the menu to make sure people always have something they want to try next. Warm, welcoming, and absolutely a delight. Just cannot recommend enough.

Edit 2: eep, we didn’t get to try the bagel bread pudding (which they make with their own bagels), but they send us home with a bag of bagels!! Seriously, if you’re not eating here, you’re missing out.

Update 02.20.2025

Came back for dinner with a friend. Once again, superb service and great food. This time we tried the chicken skewers, fried mushrooms and duck fat potatoes for appetizer and they all were hits. I had the chicken adobo pasta, which was good not a huge portion but very filling. My friend had the gnocchi and it was good as well.

Me and my partner really enjoyed the creative combination of flavors…very delicious and the bread was fresh. My main complaint was how thin and skimpy our sandwiches were. I left the restaurant starving. Big no no if to attract a following. The brunch menu needs to have more variety….80% egg dishes.I wanted to substitute brioche bread for ciabatta and got a no. Potential but the powers that be must improve their policies to really have it catch on.I liked the quiet atmosphere

Food was decent but took 45 minutes to come and was served less than hot. Just a bit disappointing. The restaurant was not even at quarter capacity, so not sure why even the appetizers took almost an hour.

Edit: was at two stars, removing the final star for the owner's patronizing explanation below of how a restaurant works. The food came out 45 mins after being ordered and came out cold. It's not my responsibility to be a guinea pig for your staff while you're training. I hope you understand this is bad service.

I wanted to love it, but I didn’t. So terribly mismanaged and the food is off. Upon arriving, there is no one there to greet you. The waitresses were running around busy and eventually someone came over to greet us and seat us. I ordered an appetizer of sautéed mushrooms and the waitress asked if I had a second choice in case they were out. I said no come back and let me know if you don’t have it. My appetizer never arrived, and I asked her where it was and she said oh sorry we don’t have anymore, I forgot to let you know. My husband got the pork chop as an entrée which was easily 3 inches tall and perfectly cooked. He loved it. I got the cod balls which were similar to fish nuggets without a lot of taste. We ordered coffee and dessert, our coffee came without spoons and we had to wait for the waitress to bring them to us. Overall, very disappointing, it has so much potential but needs more staff , better training and better management. We will not return.

A refreshingly balanced, rotating menu of traditional favorites (quality ingredients, with a modern upscale twist), complimented by unique offerings (iconically creative flavor profiles, signature vibrant cultural palette cross-fusions). Charming vibes ideal for dates and gatherings. Experience and passion extended through service and decor with an attention to detail that showcases the eclectic evolution of this neighborhood gem. Look forward to a continued tradition of special occasions and anytime reasons to dine here.

Very disappointing experience. Service was extremely slow. We sat down at 6:30 and did not get our entrees until 8:00. The worst bolognese I’ve ever had. The swordfish special was very expensive for a small piece of overly breaded fish served with nothing but a tiny arugula salad. Regretful.

Total joke of a restaurant. 10 empty tables, every reservation slot open and yet improbably turned away from dining here. Rude, crude, loser attitude. Guess what? A business that disrespects customers fails. Will tell everyone I ever meet to never go here.
