Walking in feels like stepping back to the golden age of the American steakhouse. Attentive servers who care about hospitality, no screens competing for your attention, beautiful Art Deco surroundings, and food that more than lives up to the setting. The bar was packed, the room had real energy, and the whole experience felt refreshingly old school in the best possible way.
We were guests at the Madison hotel, attending a wedding the next day, so after a 6 hour drive, dinner "downstairs" was the way to go. Rod's had an old timey elegant atmosphere, live piano music and comfortable booths. Our server was great, as were our salads. good bread rolls. Decent wine by the glass selection. Our entrees were a mixed bag - my husband's medium rare sliced tenderloin was outstanding, the accompanying mashed potatoes and sauteed onions very...
I've been going here for 50+ years. Always was great especially 50 years ago. Last night was excellent. Steak was expertly cooked . A bit noise as a wedding party was at the bar but still fine. Waitress was exceptional . The ambiance is wonderful. Will be going back soon
