Visited the Fat Cactus before a show at the State Theater for a quick dinner. Our experience was very average, but was made uncomfortable as it appeared there wasn't working air conditioning. Standing fans were placed all over the restaurant & didn't really do much. I hope the kitchen team were provided with a better solution to keep cool! The Korean beef tacos were good - although a bit salty. Margaritas were just okay. Really did not enjoy the sticky tables. The Mexican street corn fajitas were served with a limp nopal which look like it had been boiled. Could have been finished on the grill for some texture/flavor. While a decent quick option, I think there could be some more intention behind the experience & food.
My tacos were good. My husband liked his birria burrito. Service was just ok. Our waitress had too many large tables. We had to ask other wait staff for help when we needed something. It hard to catch her.
Food was delicious and delivered timely. Staff worked as a team, covering for each other. They gave extra salsa for our chips when we asked. We were disappointed that the frozen drink machine wasn't able to deliver a pina colada from opening at 11:30 'til 12:15 when we were finishing our meal. We couldn't reserve much later, since we were headed to a matinee at State Theatre.
Fat Cactus is one of our favorites in New Brunswick and we will definitely be back soon. Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable.
The food was excellent. The menu had unique offerings. Our server was very helpful. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Food and drinks were very good. Was very loud atmosphere. Ate here before a concert at State Theater it was very convenient.
Expensive tacos with very little protein in them. My buddy and my tacos got put on one plate. Waitress was very cute and nice.
Great all around experience and vibe with great prices. Food was great as well. We will be back! Highly recommended
They got my girlfriend's order wrong and we couldn't find our waiter for a good 15-20mins! And the chipotle burrito was okay, won't be returning most likely
Wanted to catch a good meal before seeing a show at The State Theatre. I had a reservation for two. I ran a bit late due to snow and traffic. I called the restaurant to tell them I was running late, and they were accommodating and understanding and held my table. Staff was friendly. Facility was upbeat and clean. Food portioning was above satisfactory and very tasty. Drinks were fantastic!

Our go to Mexican spot before a show at the State Theatre. Shrimp tacos are my personal favorite as well as the complimentary chips and salsa served after seated. Service has always been efficient and friendly. Reservations recommended on show nights. The restaurant gets busy prior to show time.
Our server was great. The food was great. Drinks are expensive. I know this has become the norm, but it's getting out of control.
We visited Fat Cactus for a birthday dinner with a group of about 10 guests, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The service was terrible. We had to flag down our waiter multiple times, and he was anything but attentive. Initially, we thought he was part of the host crew because he led us to the table but never mentioned he would be our server or that he’d return to take our drink orders.
We waited at the table for about 15 minutes before he even approached us, which wasn’t terrible at first since we were new and needed time to look over the menu. However, things quickly went downhill with the constant waiting, repeated requests for drinks and water, and the overall lack of attention.
At one point, the manager walked by, noticed us looking in his direction, and asked the server if he was taking care of us. Rather than stepping in to help or ensure we were satisfied, he left it at that, which didn’t resolve anything and made the situation even more frustrating.
As for the food, I do not recommend the chicken flautas. They were awful—more like egg rolls than traditional flautas. To top it off, gratuity was automatically included, leaving no way to adjust it despite the poor service.
Overall, a very disappointing experience. We won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to others.

A great ambience restaurant with some good Mexican food. The quantity is really a value for money. We were a large group and ordered vegetarian dish but was served one with beef, luckily a friend was able raise a red flag. They refunded for the dish, but one need to be cautious. Overall a good experience and parking on street can be hassle, although there is a garage nearby.. just 3-4 mins walk, can be a good option during winter.
