There is nothing good to say about this establishment. I decided to rate this based on the unprofessionalism in customer service and stale food. I hope to see major improvement in the future. Truly horrifying.

Before I begin, I must say that the food was very good. However, that does not excuse a plethora of flaws in this restaurant. I ordered the butter chicken. Big mistake. I paid 22 DOLLARS for a bowl of rice and a bowl of butter chicken, both bowls smaller than the palm of my hand. I left still feeling hungry. On top of this, it took at least 25 min for the food to finally come out. If the service was quicker and the portions were bigger for a better price, this restaurant would be great, but it’s not. I am not one to write reviews, but here I am writing a one star with the hope that the owners read this and realize that changes need to be made. If you want good food and don’t feel like being absolutely robbed, do not go here.

This is genuinely the best spot on campus. The butter chicken curry bowl is so amazing I tear up every single time.

Sad to say that Saturday marks the end of the tale of Nirvanis for us.
This story began back around 2016, when they were still next to Mamoun’s — and from that moment, it quickly became my family’s and friends’ favorite spot for Kathi rolls and biryani platters.
When they moved down the street, they seemed to rebrand, but our love for their food only grew. Our go-to was always the Achari Paneer Kathi Roll and the Veg Biryani Platter with added Paneer. Over time, we noticed a drop in quality at the New Brunswick location, especially with our regular order, but our faith was restored when we discovered the Somerset branch — the food there was phenomenal, easily the best we’d ever had from the brand.
Whoever visited us — near or far — this was the place we took them to. It was special, and it was close to home.
Then came Saturday. I called to place an order, but no one answered. Thinking they might be busy, I drove over — only to find the place closed. Turns out, they have new plans for that location, shifting toward fine dining with an entirely different menu. Disappointed but still craving the food, I called the New Brunswick branch. They assured me that the same cooks who once worked there were in that day, so I decided to give it a try.
Unfortunately, it was nothing but disappointment. The taste, the texture, the magic — all gone. I even bought a bottle of their famous white sauce, something I’d been meaning to do for ages, but even that fell short. Preserved and mass-packed, it tasted sour and nothing like the real thing we remembered so fondly.
It made me think of the show The Bear, where they transformed their local sandwich shop into a fine dining experience — but still kept their beef sandwich window alive on the side. They honored what started it all, while moving forward.
I can only hope Nirvanis finds a way to do the same — to keep that original street-food soul alive somewhere, even as they grow into something new.
A nostalgic chapter comes to a close — but maybe, just maybe, this isn’t the end of the story.

We were here at 2 AM and their food options did not disappoint us. Although it was past midnight but worth spending time here for a chit chat...

Sometime the service can be extremely pooor . Instead of Kathi rolls try the rice platter - it’s much better.

Yes bb yes i 💓 chicken tikka roll
Before I get to the ridiculous price for 2 veggie samosas let’s start with how greasy this crap is. It looks like the samosas went straight from the fryer right into a brown paper bag, they didn’t even bother draining the damn thing. Now let’s talk about them charging $9 dollars for 2 Veggie Samosas, most places charge $4 for 2 some even $6 but these guys take the cake at $9 after taxes. Not to mention every bite you take there’s oil dripping out. 0/10 stars don’t even bother because these people don’t care about improving the quality of their food. Don’t believe me? Just look at the picture.

Food is incredibly well spiced and flavored. I only took away a star for their pricing. $25 for a veg entree with not enough rice is definitely very over priced. Other places charge at least $10 less an entree. I plan to go back but only for the chai and the rolls. I can stomach the price of the entree and would prefer to go to a fine dining location for that cost. But chai was 10/10

Food was very mediocre to trash depending on how much good Indian food you’ve had in your life. for the price they charge the kathi rolls were a big let down especially if you’ve had good kathi rolls before. It’s only ideal if you’re totally drunk and trying to eat something at like 3AM.
