Had reservations at 7:15 , called at 7:00 to let them know we were running behind- arrived at 7:30 Pm seated at 7:35 PM.
Waited for bread and to place orders until about 7:45 ish . Drinks came out about 8:00 PM, appetizer (ordered same time as food) came out around 8:15 PM. It is now 9:00 PM and we were told the order was put in at 8:30 PM and we are 4th on the list for the food to come out.
We have watched 3 couples come in and eat and drink and have a great time. Meanwhile, we are here and even as I type - we still are not fed.
Trying to convince my partner that we should just go but we are hungry so we are staying . Will post this with time that the food comes to us.
When we spoke to the manager, shoulders were shrugged.

It was overall a bad experience for us. We drove to Newark to celebrate Valentine’s Day a day early with our kids-one studying in the area. I chose Allegro while enroute because of their availability. Looking back, it might have been a tell-tale sign. We waited too long for the food- from the appetizers to the entree. Except for the appetizers- shrimp wrapped with bacon and spinach empanadas, the entrees were pretty bad. The seafood mariscos was too salty and soggy; the pasta Alfredo with mushrooms was too oily and the codfish with peppers and onions was surprisingly bland with sharp bones sticking out. Only the beef skirt steak and French fries were passable. The service is okey considering that there seems to be 1 or 2 servers. The food and drinks are pricy. I can think of the other restos in the area with much better food offerings in the same price range. That was our first time at Allegros and that’s enough.

Beautiful atmosphere and great food! As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by a stunning fish tank full of colorful marine life — it really sets a relaxing tone for the evening. The food was delicious and beautifully presented — the lobster dish especially stood out, full of flavor and cooked perfectly.
The restaurant was pretty quiet when I visited, which made it a nice, calm dining experience. It seems like most of the staff were working near the bar, but service was still good and attentive when needed.
Overall, a great experience with fresh seafood, relaxing ambiance, and fair prices. Definitely worth recommending for anyone looking for a cozy seafood spot!

Be mindful that the kitchen closes at 10:30pm. I came in shy to 10:30pm and thankfully Julian our waiter took the party and got our order quickly to make it on time. My oh my the platter he recommended was absolutely delicious. The seafood platter was full to the top of delicious and fresh seafood over a sauce that was exquisite to your taste buds. The platter came with a side of fried potatoes and a house salad as the appetizer. Their house wine was good and the price was even better. The atmosphere on a Sunday late evening was quiet and relaxing there. You have a choice of indoor seating or outdoor. I preferred the outdoor due to the ambiance of it. It felt like I was having dinner on vacation lol. Julian gave great customer service and made sure to accommodate any other needs. I saw that they offer hookah which is a plus for me but unfortunately I saw it leaving. The only downfall from my experience is the parking.

Great Restaurant! Wife and I have had a great time at this place. It was our first visit there. Manager and waiter did their best to serve us. They were courteous and attentive all the time. Meal quality is top notch. We will definitely come back and strongly recommend it if you wish to enjoy the Portuguese cuisine and other dishes. Congrats!

Absolutely phenomenal experience at Allegro in Newark! The food was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared—every bite was delicious. But what really made it memorable was the service. Julian was outstanding—charismatic, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. He truly elevated the entire experience. Highly recommend this gem of a Portuguese restaurant. Can’t wait to come back!
