“What can be said about this place that hasn’t already been said a million times already? Legendary 12 ounce burgers. Great service. 1,000% authentic Jersey experience. All that. To me though the best part is the grill. Look at it. It’s almost as if it was an afterthought, like, sure, let’s put a grill right here, behind the bar, why not? Then they just start making these incredible burgers, cooked to absolute perfection, right there in front of you. FOR DECADES. Yup. (Is that you, Joyce?) I was there at 3 in the afternoon on a weekday and barely got a parking spot; by the time I left, the lot was full. So plan to find parking elsewhere or take public transit. But whatever you do, if you’re in town, do NOT miss this place. It’s everything the reviews say, and more.”

It was very tasty. It wasn’t salty and super seasoned like most places. The portion was a nice size for 18$. My husband ordered picanha - the meat was fresh and cooked well. It was missing a little salt for our taste but that’s an easy fix. The deserts were amazing (variety) and the coffee was too. It’s family friendly. They have parking out front for a few cars. Street parking maybe a problem on weekends but it’s worth the try.”

Red Crab - Juicy Seafood 287 Ferry St, Newark Seafood • $$

“This was my first time here. I'm visiting from Florida. I had so much fun! I visited Red Crab on Friday evening. I compare the menu, pricing and food to Mr & Mrs Crab located throughout Tampa Bay, Florida. The differences are here you bring your own liquor (byob) and the atmosphere, specifically the music. They had a live DJ. He played hits from the 90s-early 2000s. It felt like everybody was singing to it. He even played some reggae. Between patrons creating a dance floor and dancing to the moving party line, this restaurant was jumping! It was exciting to watch. If you're looking for quiet dining, you're in the wrong place. To me and my party of 6, this wasn't just a tasty dinner, it was a DINING EXPERIENCE! It's a MUST SEE kind of place.”

“Ate here with a group co-workers (total of 8 people) after work on a Tuesday evening. It had a casual atmosphere. The food was excellent starting from the appetizers all the way down to the dessert! The calamari and the shrimp during the appetizer was on point. The sauce on the shrimp was great dipping for the bread. For the Entree the seafood pasta was fresh and a generous serving portion for 5-6 people alone in 1 serving. We also had the picadinho, which was my favorite- excellent... not too greasy! And had a good portion of salad with steak. Then we each had a serving of different desserts that we shared- flan, chocolate mousse, tiramisu, cheesecake, and some pudding. All were delicious but my favorite were the flan and chocolate mousse. As for the drinks, we had a 2 pitchers of the red sangria and my friends had their beer from tap from their little waterfall grotto... it was so cool! We were all seated in the patio at the back of the restaurant which had a great breeze from outside on a nice summer temperature... our day happened to be rainy which was relaxing to see and hear from where we were seated. All in all the service was prompt and excellent from our waitress Rose. The owner happen to be in there during our visit and was very friendly and accomodating. And if you're in doubt just for the parking alone, there's a private parking lot in the back of the restaurant. Would reccomend this place and would come back again with family and friends!”

“Went with my wife and sister on a recommendation from a friend after picking my sister up at Newark airport. 14 minute drive from the terminal. Not located on the main drag. Parking was available off street around the corner. Walking to and from for a block and a half was safe and easy. The dining area in the front is not large. It feels like a cozy neighborhood place. Mario took great care of us. The Octopus and Clam appetizers were delicious, as were our entrees. Nice selection of wines. The locals at the tables nearby were very friendly and we shared a story or two of visiting Portugal. There is a bar area in the back which was pretty full on a Friday night. Accommodated my wife and sister's gluten allergies very well. Thanks Mario and Portucale for a lovely dinner!Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free FriendlyParking: Very little parking at the restaurant, but there is a lot around the corner with about ten or twelve spaces. There is a sign indicating it is for Portucale parking”

“Took a ride from Boston (Massachusetts) to Newark (New Jersey) to drop off some boxes at a transport company to ship to Portugal and stumbled upon this Coimbra Bar & Restaurant and what a treat it was. Our server Pedro was amazing!!! The piglet was the best I’ve ever had, with its crispy skin, and the service was 5 stars even with the Saturday lunch rush. This is definitely a site we will be visiting again. See you soon!”

“Comida caseira... as homemade and authentic as it comes. Working men in t-shirts come to this cantinho -- little place on the corner -- to watch soccer on tv, catch up with their neighbors, and enjoy inexpensive meals. Cash only. Steaks, chicken, sardines. Menu changes daily, written only in Portuguese on a chalkboard. 5 seats at the counter plus 15 seats at tables. Very European.”

“Super delicious mouthwatering food, they take their time to cook it so call ahead to save time, food is truly authentic, service is very good. I am a native Salvadoran so don't be fooled by the bad reviews from others, I'm a regular customer here because the service and quality of the food are one of the best, the owner makes sure she makes your food to the best quality standards in the food industry sanitation and food poising control certification is required for all cooks per owner's policy. The atmosphere and Interior of the building are distracting making you doubt about what you are getting to eat. But the dishes are made like if your grandmother cooked it. Prices are very low in comparison to others.”

“Ate here with a group of co-workers (total of 8 people) after work on a Tuesday evening. Then we each had a serving of different desserts that we shared- flan, chocolate mousse, tiramisu, cheesecake, and some pudding.”

“Good food, same original cook. 1 of 2.But they also like to do the one thing I hate restaurants doing. The tip is included ( 20%)and it’s on the initial bill but once you pay the signing receipt comes with tip area for you to fill and they don’t bring back the original receipt which they should. This is to trick you to tip twice. That for me killed it. I won’t be going back because it’s wrong morally . But again, good food.Parking: It’s across the street. Not inconvenient at all. Free for now, let’s see.”

“Years ago I went here with my husband and the food was really delicious, I ordered a grilled octopus and I loved it, it was very delicious, but my husband and son and girlfriend ordered Rodizio and they didn't like the meat, just the taste. They took meat once and I just tried it and I don't know the taste was strange, but the very good service from an Ecuadorian boy, I think it was at the beginning, a girl who I really didn't like served us, she served us the sangria and poured a There was a pile on the table and he left it like that. I had to clean it with a napkin. Nobody likes to eat at a dirty table. Then that boy came and he took care of us very, very well.”
