“Have been trying this place for a while now, and must say, O Cookshop, is pretty damn good. My favorite is their, Rasta Pasta, and their Oxtails. In this specific review, I had ordered their, Large Oxtails, w/ Rasta Pasta, & Cabbage, and a side of, Mac n Cheese. The oxtails are extremely flavorful, can have a bit of fatty pieces sometimes, but the oxtails are cooked until tender, and they overall work well into the gravy. Their Rasta Pasta is fantastic too. Al dente noodles, and the sauce has such nice Alfredo flavoring with a bit of a kick. The cabbage is cooked to a nice crispness and is always a pleasant addition to any combination you can come up with. Not to mention their, Mac n Cheese. It is so damn good. It’s creamy, but still has that Baked Mac structure to it, it is also seasoned well too. Absolutely love this place. I’d highly recommend, O Cookshop, to anyone in the, East Orange, area and looking for some terrific, Caribbean food.”

“Been here a few times. Maybe the people too lazy to come inside a restaurant to eat need to stop complaining about their orders. If you want something quick go to a fast food. If you want quality then you need to learn some patience. When ordering inside the restaurant Mr. Benson really takes his time. He even had brought our fresh cut watermelon while we waited. His food portions are huge. You get great service when you sit to eat! Food is tasty and cannot complain.

“I love this place. The food is always hot and fresh. Every time I have come to this restaurant I was pleased with the food served. The part that keeps me coming back is not just the food. One morning, I got there at the time of opening. There was a woman praying and she would not open that door til she finished her prayer. Then she proceeded to wipe the place down with Florida. I am not Christian but, I respect that highly. This restaurant is also extremely clean. No matter what time I come into this restaurant, it is always clean. Always. It is best to come when you are not in a rush.”

“First time visited and my expectations were certainly blown away! The eclectic yet calming ambiance of Cafe By Us, along with the amazing outside artwork and craftsmanship of the building alone will make me a frequent visitor. A peaceful setting that seems fitting for folk of all ages, styles and backgrounds. Much of the decor has great meaning, so if possible and interested, I recommend asking the owner Sam (a very personable individual) all about it. My mom and I ordered a lemon ginger tea, a caramel machiatto and a chicken sandwich and were extremely satisfied! The prices are very fair (especially in this economy), and the orders were delivered to us pleasantly by staff and within a reason timeframe. My only regret was that I didn’t try more of the options. However, i will certainly be back and will be sure to eventually try each item outlined on the menu, more than once! A great unique addition to the city and I will surely encourage many to try out this cafe. - Jimi”

“I ordered the fish (catfish) and wing combo w/seasoned rice. They did not disappoint. Service from the gate was polite and inviting and the establishment was clean. The fish was VERY seasoned. The chicken was also seasoned well. I tasted the rice first and was tempted to add salt but correctly decided not to b/c, all together, the seasoning from the fish and chicken was more than enough. Fair pricing for the genoursly proportionate meal which came with two slices of bread and a can of soda or bottled water.”

Walking into Machou Tropical Restaurant in East Orange, NJ, you immediately feel like you’re a priority. We chose this charming, family‑run restaurant to celebrate our daughter’s Grade 8 graduation, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The owner’s hospitality sets the tone gracious, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.

The food was extraordinary. It was, without exaggeration, the best Haitian cuisine we’ve ever enjoyed. We’ve already shared our experience with friends and family, and despite living seven hours away, we would gladly make the drive again.

The owner and his wonderful staff treated us like VIPs from the moment we arrived. The intimate size of the restaurant made our celebration feel almost private. Every plate was a standout from the unforgettable Tom Tom with real lam veritable and the huge fried fish (honestly, it looked like a requin) to the meatless legume, riz djon djon, rice and peas, Steamed rice paired with traditional Haitian sauce pois, provisions, acra, and plantains. Everything was prepared with outstanding care and skill. My kids especially appreciated the vegetarian options and fresh juices.

“This place is a gem!! a must eat!! We found it through Uber Eats and ordered 1x. It was so good. The portions were amazing. Portions are like something grandma would serve her hungry kids. We visited and now I frequent it almost daily! Homefries platter is not for the faint of heart. You've got to have a hearty appetite or share it out. Grits platter...well...something of a southern treasure! Beef bacon egg and cheese sandwich is always a perfect on the run, goodie! We tried the shrimp over rice and that was nice. Chicken over rice was even better as it had a slight kick to it. And again, no matter what you order, bring a healthy appetite cause you're gonna need it and a long nap, after! These guys are amazing!! Truly! They're sweet! They're efficient! They can throw down on that gril!! Yummmmm Oh...and if you've never had it, their lemon ginger drink is amazeballs!! This place really is a gem in the middle of a jungle 😆 Visit them and be kind! Far too many ppl are not kind or feel entitled to speak to them ill mannered. Please don't! I purchased an apple pie confetti and also a strawberry 🍓 gelato as instructed from before, the boss man said I could always call the order in as per his instructions. So I tried it out this day and it worked perfectly I'm happy he vetted his staff to bring customers joy into their life even though everybody doesn't. Have a great day. They can bring a smile to that person's face.
