I recently had an extremely unpleasant experience at Allure Lounge, located at 417 Halsey Street, Newark, NJ. My friends and I attended the PreParty organized by Shisanyama on June 21-22, 2024. What should have been an enjoyable night turned into a nightmare due to the unprofessional behavior, overcharging, and blatant discrimination we encountered.
Overcharging and Lack of Transparency From the moment we received our bill, it was clear that there was a significant error. Instead of being charged the expected amount of approximately $60, I was shockingly charged $110. When I brought this discrepancy to the attention of the waitress, she insisted that one of my friends had used my card for additional purchases, which was entirely false. Despite presenting proof that no such transactions had occurred, the staff refused to address or rectify the issue.
To make matters worse, we were not provided with an itemized receipt detailing the charges. This lack of transparency is concerning and unprofessional. Being forced to sign a bill under duress without understanding the charges is unacceptable and goes against standard business practices.
Discriminatory and Abusive Behavior The situation escalated when the owner was called in. Instead of handling the matter professionally, the owner resorted to shouting and making racially insensitive remarks. He dismissively referred to us as "Africans" and accused us of thinking we are better than Black Americans. This kind of discriminatory and abusive behavior is deeply troubling and should have no place in any establishment.
Threats and Intimidation In addition to the owner's abusive behavior, the waitress threatened me by saying the owner is used to doing this, implying that overcharging customers, especially those who might be too drunk to dispute the charges, is a regular practice. We were also threatened by others present at the venue, making it impossible for us to resolve the issue calmly and professionally. The hostile environment left us feeling unsafe and unwelcome.
Recurring Issues Upon reading other reviews, it became apparent that my experience was not an isolated incident. Another customer faced a similar issue with overcharging and unprofessional behavior, indicating a disturbing pattern of conduct at this establishment.
Lack of Professional Etiquette The owner of Allure Lounge is the main instigator of these issues. He lacks the professional etiquette required to address customer concerns effectively. His behavior sets a poor example for his staff and contributes to the overall negative atmosphere of the venue.
Final Thoughts My experience at Allure Lounge was marred by overcharging, lack of transparency, and discriminatory behavior. No customer should have to endure such unprofessional treatment. I strongly advise anyone considering visiting this establishment to reconsider. There are many other venues that value their customers and treat them with the respect and professionalism they deserve. Allure Lounge needs to address these serious issues and make significant changes to their staff training and business practices. Until then, I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

I’d give this place 0 stars if I could. First of all the only bartender was high & slow. My card had an additional charge of close to 1 hundred dollars, and when I called the owner “Charles” in the mid afternoon the next day, it sounded like he was sleep. He was extremely rude & told me I was “lying” about the additional charge. The seats are ripped, floor is nasty, and overall holds a bad vibe and represents the community in a terrlble light. Do not spend your hard earned money or time here. The security is rude and out of shape, that place is going to h3ll along with its owner.

I wish I could have given this place 4 atars, but it had a few problems. First, I will start with the positive. The DJ was on point. He kept us dancing all night. The bartenders were very nice and made great drinks. The drinks were all reasonable priced. However, this place needs a makeover and badly! The chairs are all sliced up. The floors are so damaged and horrible. The bathrooms are so terrible. None of the bathroom stalls has locks, and so you have to hold the dirty door while you are trying to use the bathroom. Overall, the vibe is great, and it was a wonderful atmosphere, but the place is dirty and falling apart.
