I wanted to post a food pic but it looked so good I couldn't stop. The service here is better than most. It has a great feel to it.

Arrived at six, it was not packed. The service here is better than most. Bring your appetite because portions are generous. Feels like a place in Los Angeles I liked.

You never know what tine this place will open or close. The operating hours are inconsistent and you never know what food will be available. Some days no eggs or no cheese. Ask for toasted bread and all you get is warm bread. Prices were just raised$7.00 for a coffee and breakfast sandwich. Ouch.

City Beans Café is across from Military Park and down the street from the Robert Treat Hotel on Park Place, Newark, NJ. It is a smallish, take out only joint, run singlehandedly while I was there one morning this week. I found service to be friendly and efficient, prices to be quite reasonable, and the in/out time to be very fast. Ordering a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on a hard Kaiser roll, I watched as the chef/manager laid two sausage patties on the grill, cracked two eggs into an aluminum bowl for scrambling, and then lay two slices of American cheese on top of everything before lifting in one piece onto the open and grilled roll. That and a small café came to around $6. Nice price. The breakfast itself was very good. It was a heavy carry over to the hotel where I was attending a conference all day. It did leak a bit of oil onto the brown paper bag, but no harm/no foul. I enjoyed every bite, although a little hot sauce would have been a plus. Coffee has hot and strong. I finished my meal at the hotel conference room table while waiting for the speakers to arrive. Had I seen the first review prior to going in to City Beans, I might not have entered; but having done so, I can only report that the food I ate was decent, and that I was treated well. Maybe, these folks have found religion and turned over a new leaf.
