If you’re planning to visit a family member here, call ahead to get the most accurate information — but don’t expect them to tell you everything. Visitations are only on Saturdays (2–3 PM) and Sundays (7–8 PM). They’ll tell you to arrive 30 minutes early, around 6:30 PM, but that’s misleading. Only 15 families are allowed inside, and it’s strictly first come, first served — something they won’t mention over the phone. Be prepared to wait for hours. Some families arrive as early as 10 AM just to secure a spot, spending the entire day outside regardless of weather conditions — rain, snow, or extreme heat. There’s a second visitor room with enough tables and chairs to accommodate more families, but it’s been “under repair” for god knows how long, with no sign of urgency to fix it. I’ve driven all the way from Brooklyn twice and never made it inside. The first time I arrived 2 hours early , and all spots were already taken. The following week, I arrived three hours early — still no luck, as the 15 available spots had been claimed by people who came around 9–10 AM.
Is this really acceptable? Many families work or travel long distances to see their loved ones. The way this facility handles visitation is disorganized, unfair, and, frankly, inhumane.
