As GOOD AS It GETS!!!! I had the pleasure of going here for some fantastic food. Everything was fresh and hot, the staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable. You get a lot but it is the taste of the food that counts. The foods tastes awesome !!! Oh....I wanted more. They are a fairly new restaurant and I know they will build up customers fast. Mac and cheese are cheesy and the oxtails are perfectly seasoned. The Collard greens are yummy and cooked just the way I like them. I plan to visit here again and again.
It wasn't as good as I thought it would be ordered Curry chicken and it didn't even taste like Curry the gravy was watery
This place serves comfort food dishes, beef ribs, chicken, candy yams, mac and cheese, collar greens all with great spicy flavor. Friendly eat in service or carry out. This restaurant is also on the grub hub app.
OMG like mama’s home cooking! So good
Great food, great value, great people!
Food is great clean and nice comfort food I’ve come multiple times since the first day I came and it’s always great! No complaints at all!!! And we travel all the way from west orange for this food from Charlenes Hair studio!
Food is good. Service is meh. And WTF are their actual hours?! Google says they open at 7 AM. I went 11:45AM on a Saturday and they were closed so.... Y’all might wanna change that.
Good inexpensive food with courteous service.
Fish was sooooo salty I got a headache, I didn’t even finish it. The price was too expensive for a fish sandwich that was disgusting and the nerve of the lady who was serving us to suggest the fish. And I thought she was a bit rude!
heard a lot of good things about this place, tried it and fell in lov! this is what you call a hole in the wall! The jerk chicken was phenomenal! definitely recommend trying this place! i was very satisfied (sorry forgot to snap a pic)
I bought take out a couple of times, the food is very tasty. But I got turned off by the elderly guy fixing my food with a tooth pick hanging out of his mouth. And that is not very cool to me.
Haggar's Halal Kitchen is a treasure. I was staying at the Courtyard Marriott, half a block away. Haggar's served probably the best curried chicken, yams, and rice&beans I've ever had. And a pretty decent something-or-other cake for dessert. I don't know what the food's ethnicity is but, dang, it was GOOD. And wonderful, earnest people running the place.
Affordable delicious halal blessed Soul Food.
Waiting around for an afternoon business meeting Downtown Newark. Wanted a small, quick bite to eat. Salmon cakes, grits, beef bacon and eggs at 3pm, cool. Food was so DELICIOUS, I wanted to order another to go but didn't want to be greedy. I WILL BE BACK and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS NICE, QUIET SPOT!
Stop by for a quick bite heard so much about this establishment. There were more empty tables than people. Ordered my food to go because the interior was just to drab. However the gentleman behind the counter was very professional. The jerk chicken was hopeful yams mushy, cabbage cafeteria.
The food was seasoned just right. Food portions are good. The owner was so nice. I would reccommend this place for sure.
Nice Manners,Quiet Atmosphere & Reasonable Prices. The Food Is Great. Especially, The Turkey Chops Smoothered In Gravy.
Did not get a chance to even try the food. Some rude woman just kicked everyone out because she had other things to focus on
We’ve been looking for halal soul food and this place is amazing!
Haggers fish with Mac and cheese and candy yams is a meal. I took a photo of my food last time I was at haggers. I honestly get the same thing every time but I always say I’m going to get something different my friends like the food a lot too. I’ll be going there tomorrow actually 😋
My co-worker and I went here for lunch so we can try the food. While in the middle of fixing her order, I just so happen to notice these tiny black things on the counter. I scooped it up with the menu to get a better look and realized it was mouse droppings. Needless to say we left without food. No thanks!
Some of THE best food in Newark, including some of the best chicken wings in New Jersey!
I stopped here with some friends after a long drive up from south jersey. we were heading back down and decided to grab something to eat first. when i tell you this place was so good i could not stop eating! the chicken was crispy and delicious. The potato salad .... speechless. thanks for filling my belly with love ! eat here yall !
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! We stopped in this restaurant after a hour and a half drive to this location for an event and after reading the reviews and that they would be open in the next hour "11:00 am, we would have an AMAZING LUNCH! Nothing could have been further from the truth. The restaurant was dark, had to get our own postcard of a menu after we sat ourselves as the young woman behind the counter looked up and then returned to her cell phone. Then after 5 min, she walked over and said "You know what u want yet?". When I asked if the OXTAILS were ready as I know that they are a slow cooked process, she said let me go look. NOW AT THIS POINT...STILL NO WATER ON THE TABLE "it was for sale", no silverware set up, no napkins, no salt and pepper on the table. She came back and said " I have enough for 1 order". Now, that struck me as odd but I ordered it and my husband ordered the curry chicken. WE placed our orders at the SAME TIME but my order that she got the mac n cheese from the front steam table along with my greens then WALKED MY PLATE TO THE BACK FOR THE OXTAILS, then walked back to our table 10 min later and placed it in front of me. Now, I'm thinking MAYBE she can't carry 2 plates at once and was going back for my husband's plate so I waited to start eating so we could say grace together but ....NOPE, 15 min later she got the sides again, walked to the back and came out with his. My husband kept telling me that it's ok and to eat my food that I did try when she first brought out the slivered chips of bones that were supposed to be oxtails. The mac n cheese was dry, the greens were horrible and the oxtails tasted OLD N REHEATED. The curry chicken was average and the green beans were ok but at least the food was hot! The cook came out and asked why I sent it back because it was "falling off of the bone tender". Well, the bone was sliced so thin that any meat would have had NOTHING TO HOLD ON TO. Now, we still tipped....for nothing and paid for our food. We even had to ask for a to go box 3x and stood up from the table thinking that she would get the hint for our check but NOPE. In short, it was a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE and if I could give it NO STARS... ESPECIALLY AFTER SEEING THE ENTRANCE TO THE KITCHEN AS WE WERE LEAVING.....I WOULD!
My new favorite place, downtown city hall! Great host, service and fresh food and desserts! Art work gallery, catering services and party space.
Food is absolutely delicious..collard greens and fish are my favorites....not greasy, overcooked, or under seasoned...Just right amount of flavor in every bite..!!!!
Haggar's is a very welcoming down home restaurant. The owner was very friendly as were other patrons in the restaurants. The food was well prepared. I ate there two consecutive days. I will definitely return.
Great food! Great staff! A hidden gem. Fried chicken and fish are perfect! Desserts are delicious, sides are slamming and the prices are low. Right near City Hall, Post Office and Courts. There's nothing around this area that can really compete when it comes to quality of food at low prices. Also, even though I'm not Muslim, it's nice to know that the food is kept to a cleanliness standard above what the law requires. 5 Stars!
