Josh, Manny and the crew at La Cocina are the BEST. They accommodate our program and special orders (even at the last minute). Food is always delicious and arrives hot for our clients lunch at 12:15.
As long as we are without a cook at our program, I will continue to order from you! NHBC appreciates you!!

When thinking of a place to get lunch in Newark, I'm really not sure you will find anywhere better. I got the bistec sandwich, and it was fantastic. Try the patio in the back for cute outdoor seating! Only thing to improve (maybe) is that there is not a lot of indoor seating, but honestly that's fine.

I've only gotten delivery, but hope to eat there soon! The pulled pork has been consistently flavorful and not dry. I usually get it with rice/beans and plantains. Last time I tried the guava and cheese empanada, and now I am obsessed!

This place is a gem. The food is so amazing and the portions are large. You can't beat the pernil

Definitely a better option around Rutgers Newark. There are some good choices like arroz moro and steamed veggies. I wasn’t too sure about the ropa vieja—it was tough and not something I’d choose again. I feel like I might be back though, since there’s nothing else nearby that’s really worth stopping for. I asked for a cappuccino and it was nicely made—very strong, just how I love it, with a touch of cinnamon!

Voted the best Newark for very good reasons and let me tell you about them. One, easy order process. Buffet style selection, think Chipotle, but better food. Two, high quality food. Had the pernil, rice, and beans and tasted the plantains and a Cuban empanada. Three, sat outside on their roof top patio and enjoyed a lovely spring day.

I had a mixed experience during my visit. Unfortunately, the staff member who was serving me coughed near my food and wasn’t wearing gloves, which made my friend and I feel uncomfortable about the hygiene. The takeout box that I was given was also dirty and I had to ask them for a new one.

The food itself was great. We ordered chicken with Mexican rice and black beans and got generous portions. The taste did not disappoint—it was delicious! The Buffalo Chicken empanada was the highlight of our meal, it was filled with flavor and I highly recommend trying it! We really liked dining in their outdoor seating area.

If the staff could improve on their hygiene practice and service, this would easily be a five-star experience.

Opens early, said to have GREAT coffee, but I don't drink coffee, hot food buffet, empanadas, good drink selection, very limited street parking.
