This review is one of the more difficult for me to write.Let's start with the good.1) The staff is without fault. They are attentive and friendly.2) Next are the drinks. I have little to complain about, they are well made and perfectly acceptable.3) Next we have food and the first problem. Inconsistency is the word I'll use. I rarely give bad reviews and I'm trying not to give a bad one here. I had a medium rare steak that was perfect 100%. However my dinner guest had the Brazilian Steak with ham and egg along with rice and chips. In a word "inedible" the sauce reminded me eggfooyoung and not in a good way. My advice is to take it off the menu if it doesn't match the quality of other offerings.4) Dessert again inconsistent. We had the Cheesecake (Amazing) and rice pudding (ewww what happened?). Again remove from the menu if it can't match the quality of your other offerings.5) Name changes! This restaurant is no longer using Maize and the original number has been disconnected. This leads to a lot of confusion. You guys should have kept the original phone number.

Horrible food. The pancakes tasted like Play-Doh, and the strawberries were sour. For the cost, you’d expect good food. Avoid this place if you can!

We booked at the hotel for a major event and needed breakfast our waiter & waitress was very attentive checked on us we didn’t have to ask for water refill and the breakfast was delicious. Also we had a few drinks which was good the manager also came to ensure we were good.Parking: $25 if you’re a guest at the hotel $20

Hadn’t eaten at Maize for a while so we thought we’d give it another try since we had a show across the street at NJPAC… the only item worth consuming were the cocktails. Everything, everything we ordered was disgusting. Calamari that tasted like fried rubber bands to some type of ricotta, shrimp, salmon dish that looked and tasted like a soupy mess…don’t eat here save your money

The food and service was excellent.

We visited Maize for the second time recently. It is sort of becoming a habit before seeing a show at NJPAC, which is right across the street. The restaurant is in the Robert Treat hotel, so you can conveniently park in the Military Park Garage, walk upstairs for dinner, then walk across the street for the show.

Third class service. I waited one hour before the waiter took my order. May be the place is not that brown friendly, since I witnessed the favoritism. There’s something seriously wrong with humanity.

The restaurant has a new name- Medallion I believe. We ate at the bar. The staff was lovely and attentive. I had the grilled tilapia and shrimp over mashed potatoes. My friend had the shrimp coctail and cheesy fries. All delicious. We asked to speak with the chef because we were trying to figure out some of the ingredients because it was THAT good. She came out. Had a nice time discussing the food. I highly recommend this place. We went on a Friday night. I would absolutely go here again

They have transitioned to Brazilian cuisine and call themselves Medallion. Unfortunately they have kept poor performance. The servers are quite inexperienced (which is forgivable). But the only spice of the two dishes we got was.... Salt. Lots of it. In the case of the mahi mahi it was with capers top of it! They forgot the appetizer ( Brazilian salgadihnos) which were cold in the middle and without any flavor. The price for this was inexcusably high. Since it was a night out for NJPAC, we didn't want to ruin it with complaints, but I'd rather go hungry than visit again.

The atmosphere, food and service were top notch. This is a very well run and beautiful restaurant and a hidden gem in the city of Newark. I had the pre-fixe pre-Theater menu with a crab cake appetizer full of fresh crab meat and a side salad, the Garlic Shrimp and for dessert a Lemon-Orange Mousse. Everything was beautifully presented and the perfectly served. The service was friendly without being over-whelming and both the hostess and waiter were very patient with a testy theater crowd. It has all the components, a beautiful restaurant with wonderful food and great service.
