Wishing i could give a zero because the developers do everything to make sure the center is a hub for business and people coming from OUTSIDE OF NEWARK. It’s disjointed from the rest of the community, they partner with residential buildings whose rent prices are for those who make 100k+ when the median income is 37k in the city. Then advertises like it’s a city hub. It is… when you cater to NYC and not Newark. Thumbs down.

Connected to Pennsylvania station, it is a great place to do everything, although it is usually a bit chaotic to get around.

My partner and I attempted to walk through the Gateway Center yesterday on Friday evening at 5:30pm from the Mulberry Street side. I have walked through the building almost every day since they have reopened and didn't think there would be any issue. We were immediately stopped by a security guard and asked what we were doing. When I said, "The building is open to the public right now and we want to walk through" she said "All the stores are closed" and tried to get us to leave. All the stores were certainly not closed as Chip City, the pharmacy, and the restaurant next to the hotel were all open when we did eventually walk through so this was a bizarre lie. After going back and forth for a couple minutes, asking several questions about what we were doing, the guard finally let us go and we walked through the Gateway Center to Penn Station. The interaction was very unpleasant. Why did she question us so aggressively when the building was open to the public and we were just trying to walk to Penn Station?I've never been stopped before when I was wearing business clothes when coming and going from my job. However, on this day I was dressed in street clothes because I took the day off from work. It was clear to me that the security guard was making sure I wasn't a homeless person, unlike the dozens of commuters who were dressed in business clothes who were walking past us as we spoke. If the Gateway Center is going to have a discriminatory policy where they stop people based on how they dress, well they messed with the wrong person. I have a background in managing public buildings. If this is one poorly trained security guard, that can be fixed, but if there is any sort of pattern where Gateway is trying to stop homeless people from walking through a building that is open to the public, we will see them in court!

Worst place ever they don’t tell you it’s 15min from the airport and there’s no shuttle to take you there I paid $80 online and when I went to pick up my car they tried to charge me and extra $105 saying I didn’t pay I had to show proof thank god I kept my recipe

The Gateway is to me just as the name implies - a gateway between Downtown Newark and Newark Penn Station. Beyond traversing between the two is a large business building. Most of my visits here have actually been for that - business for one of my clients family attorney. Several floors up after getting clearance is a fancy suite where I'm sure high profile law meetings take place as it is extremely high end looking and assume the other floors look the same. In the main area is an extension of what Newark Penn Station is like, New York Penn as well with various shops to consider before you travel. From what I can tell it serves it's purpose. An upscale office building complete with security, an art gallery on the lower level but shops that offer passage to Downtown Newark and Newark Penn. There is a parking garage just outside of the building that I find handy in my visits here.
