We went to dinner before a Devils game. Second time in four months that we went to PortuCale before a Devils game. In November, 6 of us, couldn't have had a better experience. This time, in early March, the three of us could not have had a worse experience. Other than the appetizer sampler, which is exceptional, we had the worst Food experience in any Portuguese restaurant in Newark that we ever had. The picadino, the pork and clams, yasted exactly the same, bland in a pasty peppers and onions sauce. The clams were small, tasteless and gulf clams. We have some of the best clams in the world here in NJ. I don't think I've ever had that many peppers and onions in my picadino or pork and clams. The pork was hard, tough and fatty. Was inedible. Steak was rare instead of medium. I sent it back and then it came back medium rare. Also one of the people I came with asked for well done it was medium. Floors are slippery all throughout so Becareful. Garlic shrimp was very good, and so was the calamari.

Water wasn’t served and we didn’t get it til the end after I asked. We had steaks and I had to ask for steak knives halfway through eating the steak. No one cared to stop and ask how things are going. Steak felt cold and not flavorful. Waited 45 min ti they offered dessert. My girl was happy but I was not and it’s Valentine’s Day.

Portuguese Food—> Good Portuguese Waiters —> Great However, kicked down to two stars as this is a Portuguese restaurant and had blaring Hispanic music. No Portuguese cultural music or easy listening..They should consider changing their name to something Hispanic and serve Hispanic Cultural Food instead of Portuguese. Complained several times to have them play one Portuguese song and revert. 👎👎👎👎

Yesterday, Sunday, January 5, 2025, I ordered this octopus salad 🐙 through Uber East, and it arrived damaged, and with a damaged taste, the bad smell rose from the palate, how can they send an order like that, it is a danger, it is seafood. $25 dollar lost, who gives it to me? and possible poisoning if he had eaten it like that.

Presentation poor. Salad whiteout taste. Shrimp overcooked and greasy. My dinner plate combination of meat, Shrimp, and mushrooms and other items of plate all mixed together, offering no desire of consuming even the Mashed potatoes, offered any taste. First and last time. Wanted to offer my girlfriend a nice experience unfortunately, she was really disappointed of portucale Restaurant & bar.

A cozy spot in downtown Newark, couldn't ask for more! As someone who does not know Portuguese cuisine I was so happy to try and and throughly enjoyed it. The decor is also super intriguing and made me feel like I was both at home and somewhere I've never been.

The food is good. However, they lost our order and realized only when we said something after waiting for an hour! It finally arrived an hour and a half later with apology. You would think they would offer to adjust the bill???? They did not. They offered dessert or a drink but we don’t do either. We paid the full price for a meal that arrived 1.5 hours late because they “lost “ the order. No adjustment to the bill. We were very disappointed and insulted! Not a smart way to treat your customers!
