Came into this place for some German food and vibes before the game tonight against Calgary and got so much more...food is amazing, drinks top notch and just the atmosphere. We will most definitely be back! I cannot say enough good things!
Ok so this is across from the Prudential Center so of course it's going to be expensive but this was beyond ridiculous. There is no table service here. You have to fight to order your food at the bar in the middle of people ordering drinks. A.20% surcharge is added to everything even though you serve yourself. Then you have to wait to pick up your food at another counter.
We offered the pru sampler for 37.99 plus the extra 20%. It has 4 or 5 buffalo wings with barely any meat, 4 chicken tenders, 4 mozzarella sticks and 4 potato pancakes that were 3 inches each. Total ripoff for almost $50
We also ordered the chicken tenders which had 4 or 5 tenders each about 4 inches long for 15.99 plus 20%.
We also ordered the double cheddar brat platter for 24.99 plus 20%. It's two 6 inch sausages with 2 triangles of toast
We spent over $100 on very little mediocre tasting food. I would have saved money buying burgers and chicken tenders at the Prudential center.
Don't waste your money here.

Been a couple of times before a Devils game. The place is as expensive as eating/drinking in the crazily overpriced Prudential Center.
I got a large blue moon and fries and it was $29 (I didn't realize there's a mandatory service charge otherwise I wouldn't have tipped a couple of dollars). I won't be going again but it's crazy busy so they won't miss one customer.

Popped in for lunch while visiting for a concert & devils games. The place itself is great! Was really impressed with their photos, decor, and overall appearance. Truly thought we'd love the place.
We sat at the bar, and there were maybe 6 others in the place. Immediately greeted and took our order.
Ordered nachos - which were really chips covered in BBQ pork toped with old lettuce and old jalapeños. The BBQ was good, but the overall plate was at minimum 2/10. Motz sticks were not fully cooked, so we were unable to enjoy those.
After we had our initial order taken, however, we were not spoken to again. We were not asked how our food was, especially noticeably that it wasn't being eaten. No ask of drink refills, not even water.
We ended up chatting with a couple who sat next to us, so we were hanging out there for a bit, again with absolutely zero service still.
It took me almost 15 minutes to get someone's attention for my check, which was a whole different girl. I noticed they already added a 10% to their checks, and I did see the sign but was frustrated as it wasn't busy, and the service was terrible and did not deserve an automated tip.
Overall, this experience was a 1 star experience.
However, after cody johnson, we popped in since the other bar was packed. I didn't catch his name, but he ended up making our second experience there way better. He was welcoming, chit chatting with us, and checked in a few times while we hung out. I didn't explain my experience earlier, but I did ask about the 20% automatic tip for events. He explained it added on for purposes like a concert but doesn't apply until the evening or nighttime. I asked a time frame, and he said normally after 4.
This frustrated me more as we were there and left before 4pm. Essentially, we shut down the bar with him and a few others that night, and he made up for bad experience earlier that day.

Great place to grab a drink while waiting to go watch a game at the Prudential Center. Park is a big issue here, the food. Is more of an appetizer and comfort food.

Okay, why am I eating this place 5 stars? It is as far from that traditional experience as could be imagined.
However, it is as advertised. German beers, loud 90s bands, brats, schnitzel, even spaetzel. Is this fine cuisine? No. Great place to drink and have decent fare before a Pru event or Devils game? Yes.
If you are searching for something other than the wurst food and a truly authentic Newark experience, yes, this place is 5 stars.
Great happy hour deals on non-event days too. Meatballs and potato pancakes are standouts.
(Though, really, you guys could pour a better beer. Never got a truly full one in a week visiting here.)

Had the sausage and my girl had a burger! The burger was missing the special Cajun portion to it but our friendly bartender took care of it. The beer was mighty and large and I only wish it was also volunteered in a cooled stein, but I don't know if that's too ridiculous of me to ask!
Place is definitely trans friendly so do not be afraid. They get doordashers who should be forced to wait out front if you ask me. They're too awful standing near the bar, stop allowing them to do that.
Give Redd's a visit! Ask for your order with a toothy smile and I promise they will respond in kind. :)

$32 for a hamburger, fries and a beer seems a bit steep. And the mandatory 20% tip? They should be tipping me. You have to come to them to order the food and then pick it up yourself. At least the burger was good.

Really friendly staff, great food and fast service. Yeah, there were a lot of drunks stumbling around but it is a biergarten so you expect it. The fish and chips and potato pancakes were delicious and the portion sizes were huge. We picked this place before a comedy show because the neighboring restaurant, American Whiskey, was BLASTING music in customers' ears. Who the hell wants to eat where you can't even have a conversation? I'm glad they did though because we ended up here instead.

This place is a joke, my wife and two kids went before an event and they charged us 25% gratuity for a party of 4 with kids? Let alone you have to order and go pick up your food hence no service, also their prices are out of control. My daughter got the chicken and fries for 22 dollars, please be careful and avoid this place!

The thieves at this restaurant decided to tip themselves an extra $8 on my $18 takeout lunch (that I already rounded up to the nearest dollar). I really shouldn't have tipped anything considering it took almost 10 mins to find someone to take my order when the place was deserted at noon. It's a good thing I kept the receipt. It's a shame because the food was actually decent, but I can't in good conscience go back.
