As always, the Spanish Tavern delivers a hi quality dining experience. That's why it is our go-to restaurant in the area.
Food is excellent. Service is great. We got the mushroom appetizer - so tasty! For entrees we got the paella and the filet tips with onions. Great spot for dinner before an event at the Prudential Center.
Food is what I would consider mediocre. Also, most of the servers were excellent except they got my drink and side dishes wrong and didn't like that I wanted it changed.
We had a lovely experience. From the time we were ushered to our table to the time we left. The attention paid by the staff was perfect to ensure we were okay vs constant check ins that interrupt conversations. The food was delicious - from the perfectly done mussels with chorizo and the sauce they were in to the garlic shrimp and beyond. They even brought us a special homemade spicy sauce in case we wanted to add a little something to the already great-tasting dishes.
Excellent service and delicious food. Waiters served complimentary soup at the beginning of the meal and we ended with a classic desert special. Everything was wonderful in between including a classic red sangria to complement the meal.
Great ambience and service as usual, but disappointing meal last night. Hopefully it was just an off night in the kitchen.
Spanish Tavern never disappoints!!! Their shrimp & garlic sauce is a MUST TRY!! Been going there since the 90's. Waiters are excellent and the food is great!!.
The best Spanish cuisine Newark has to offer! You are treated like you are part of the family .
Had the best paella outside of Spain. Place had great vibes. The little details are well done, like heated milk for the coffee. Even the decaf coffee was freshly brewed and had great flavor. This place is a true gem.
Jumbo Shrimp Enchilados was excellent and spicy. Ask for the special house picante for an extra kick and savory flavor. Never disappointed at the Spanish Tavern.

Very attentive and polite service. Octopus appetizer was tender and tasty. Paella Valencia was a large portion (for 2) with very well cooked lobster. Chicken and sausage slightly dry. Crisp spanish potatoes to die for and solid broccoli rabe. Would definitely go back when in area for event at Prudential Center.
Good atmosphere and very cozy, I didn't eat in the restaurant but the diners' dishes looked tasty. I only had a few beers and the service was good.

Food was ok, but didn't meet our expectations in taste for the price. Staff was fine. Ordered a NY strip steak, $35, a little too much fat and taste was just ok for me. Wife ordered paella and again, not great, just ok, probably too much on the watery side. I ordered a Johnny walker blue on the rocks and I'm not sure if maybe they had left the bottle opened for too long(?), but that wasn't worth the $67.00 I paid for that one drink alone. Wife ordered the house red wine and that was good. Would have given 2 1/2 stars, 3 is generous, based on our experience. Overall, pricey vs food quality and service you receive.
Went here for lunch and everything was excellent. Steamed one pound and quarter lobster listed as MP was 50 bucks. That was a turn off.
