Food was good here, not great. The service could use some help in terms of customer friendliness. They don’t go out of their way to acknowledge you which is off-putting. I think a little kindness and attention in here will attract more business. I was missing a few side items (like beans) from my order and didn’t realize it until after I got home. Always check your order, it takes like 2 seconds. What I liked: the papas rellenos were good sized but I wanted more spice. Pernil was fresh and not dried out but also lacked flavor. Aguacate salad and Flan didn’t disappoint. They seem to be doing something right if they’ve opened up a second location in downtown Newark and can afford to send a food truck to the Meadowlands Fair (last summer). But it seems they’ve gotten a bit comfortable with the Mt. Prospect location and attention to detail has been forgotten, much like the Tainos of Puerto Rico. Street parking only and this area is tough, you might find something a block or two off of the main drag. Would I go here again? Nah. Great food, clean place.. went for first time this weekend and waited 1 hours 40 minutes for our food to come out. We almost just got up and left..the table next to us was talking about doing the same.. then they have the audacity to impose the tip on the bill - would never come back to a place that has 0 regard for the customers time.
