Unfortunately, the experience was horrible. I ordered a risotto with filet mignon, but nowhere in the world did they send me anything close to what I expected to receive. The meat was dry and the rice looked like old rice that you add too much water to when cooking and it turns into mush. Horrible experience, zero rating.

Went there for lunch on 12/13 and I didn’t have the best experience. Service was so slow. I asked for a drink twice to two different waiters and it never came. I ordered the picanha with rice, beans and fries and the beans were super watery. I was excited to try this place out after a local blogger posted about it, but it did not live to my expectations. I will definitely not be returning.

Food and Sangria was delicious, Brasilian music to loud for a place to have meals, the only Portuguese gentleman there did amazing job served, I wish it’s turn back the way it was. When we opened the door already see the difference.

Had high hopes for Tony Da Caneca given its reputation and long-standing history in Newark, but my recent experience was underwhelming. The service was sluggish, with our server taking ages to take our order and even longer to deliver it. When the food finally arrived, the portions were smaller than expected, and the quality didn’t justify the price.

Came here with my family after hearing all these recommendations and was deeply disappointed. Service was great. The inside and decor was great. The food was not. It was 5 of us and all of our dishes came out way too salty and not authentic at all. Hope they get it together and get a new chef. 2thumbs down

In my experience with Tony it was wonderful, the servers was super friendly and kind to us, they have great drinks, and the best caipirinha, good food and good music. I love this place ??

Lulu was our server at the bar. We ordered soup which was never delivered. Our burgers were dry, which I mentioned to her and she responded with, I don’t understand. I asked for salt and pepper and she ignored me. The party next to us asked to take his left over food to go and she threw it in the trash. He mentioned that he wanted to take it to go and her response was, I don’t understand. We’ve been here before and the service has always been exceptional; not tonight. She was absolutely terrible and I don’t think that we’ll be back. Stop talking, listen to your customers and pay attention.

The food used to be good but has slipped to a lesser quality and at a very high price. Bring back the food we used to know.

My father has been taken my family to Tony Da Caneca for at least 30 years. It changed ownership in recent years and got a much needed upgrade to the dining room. It definitely feels more modern and the food is still consistent and enjoyable. The flaming sausage app is clearly a popular dish and fun to see some ???. Paella is good but would be nice to have a crust on the bottom of the pot. My in laws got pasta dishes which were very sizable portions. It’s nice that there is a parking lot across the street. They had live music during our last visit and the singer had a great voice - felt bad that it was early and weren’t many customers to enjoy the show.

Nice little restaurant at the beginning of Elm St just off Chestnut. Great lunch selection. Had the lunch special, Sirloin with a fried egg. Finished up with a nice espresso.
