Cod was great. Garlic shrimp was delightful. Everyone loved their meal. We had a lot of red sangria! Live music was excellent but a little loud, which is why I rated the atmosphere a 4

The service, the food, the atmosphere.... hands down the best in Newark. Our gym members love coming here on a Friday night to enjoy the live music and home cooked food

Tony Da Caneca is an absolute must-visit for anyone who appreciates extraordinary service, authentic Portuguese cuisine, and an exceptional wine selection. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism, setting the stage for a truly memorable dining experience.

The highlight of our meal was the octopus appetizer—perfectly tender and bursting with flavor. The flaming sausage added a fun and interactive element to the evening, both delicious and entertaining. And then came dessert—an indulgent triple chocolate masterpiece that was nothing short of heavenly. Paired with rich, aromatic Portuguese coffee, it was the perfect ending to a flawless meal.

Tony Da Caneca exceeded all expectations, and we can't wait to return. Highly recommend for anyone looking to savor the best of Portuguese cuisine!

Unfortunately, the experience was horrible. I ordered a risotto with filet mignon, but nowhere in the world did they send me anything close to what I expected to receive. The meat was dry and the rice looked like old rice that you add too much water to when cooking and it turns into mush. Horrible experience, zero rating.

Went there for lunch on 12/13 and I didn’t have the best experience. Service was so slow. I asked for a drink twice to two different waiters and it never came. I ordered the picanha with rice, beans and fries and the beans were super watery. I was excited to try this place out after a local blogger posted about it, but it did not live to my expectations. I will definitely not be returning.

Food and Sangria was delicious, Brasilian music to loud for a place to have meals, the only Portuguese gentleman there did amazing job served, I wish it’s turn back the way it was. When we opened the door already see the difference.

They just redid this place a few months ago, and new management is in place. The bar is now a place that I like to sit at, and my girlfriend and I always sit at the bar. Food is always great, and they have specials all the time. New menu, and i have not tried everything yet but definitely will.

Had a luncheon here for our end of year celebration. We had 11 people in our party, we had reserved a table and were seated in a private area. We noticed that the other side of the restaurant was also packed and had other big parties and they never dropped the beat. Let me say, that everything was exceptional! The service was great and our table was attended to by Julierme, which made sure we were taken care of at all times. I went around and asked everyone about their meals and every single person was very satisfied with what they had chosen from the menu, from the Tuscan salmon, the grilled octopus lagareiro, T-bone steaks, pork chop, rack of lamb, mixed bbq shish kabob, to the penne in vodka sauce! Each dish was prepared beautifully and so delicious!! They also made beautifully crafted cocktail drinks and Sangrias for the table. The dessert was also
So good!! They have a specialty crepe with dulce de leche that comes with ice cream on a cone that not only looked artisanal, it was the cherry on top of the meal! Wish we could rate it 11 stars for everyone that was at our party!! I definitely recommend this restaurant as you can not be disappointed with anything on the menu.

Had high hopes for Tony Da Caneca given its reputation and long-standing history in Newark, but my recent experience was underwhelming. The service was sluggish, with our server taking ages to take our order and even longer to deliver it. When the food finally arrived, the portions were smaller than expected, and the quality didn’t justify the price.

Came here with my family after hearing all these recommendations and was deeply disappointed. Service was great. The inside and decor was great. The food was not. It was 5 of us and all of our dishes came out way too salty and not authentic at all. Hope they get it together and get a new chef. 2thumbs down
