Gilberto’s is a historical staple in the North Bergen Community, proudly serving upper North Bergen with traditional hispanic dishes.
The menu consists of daily meals (ex: “we serve pot roast and pork on monday for this meal and beef next day”) along side some everyday general options.
This “cafeteria” really is so small and downscale, so dont expect complete upscale food, but you do have a warm cozy hispanic spot. There is a language barrier between English and Spanish but I personally didnt need to worry about it ymmv
Options include soups, some meats, some carb options (tostones, bean, rice) and some veggies.
Food is cheap, but there is a $10 card minimum.

Arroz Moro was incredible, ropavieja good. Cuban sandwich was ok. I didn't like croquettas. Mamey Shake, Order 3 and it seems like he put mamey for 2. It seems like I have to order them 1 x 1. Excellent Chicken Strips. I tried Galician broth. It tastes good.

THE SERVICE THAT THE GILBERTO RESTAURANT HAS IS REGRETTABLE! THEY OVERCHARGED US FOR RICE WHEN I ORDERED AN ORDER THAT CAME WITH RICE, THE SANDWHICHES WAS TASTELESS, I ASKED FOR CHEESE ON MY SANDWICH AND THEY DID NOT PUT IT AND THEY CHARGED ME FOR THAT CHEESE! THE PERSON WHO ATTENDS THE ORDERS (A WOMAN) VERY BADLY EDUCATED, TAKES THE ORDERS AS SHE WANTS (BADLY) IT HAS HAPPENED TO US SEVERAL TIMES THAT WE HAVE ASKED FOR AN ORDER AND WE MUST ALWAYS REVIEW AND RETURN TO HAVE THE ORDER COMPLETED. I RECOMMEND THAT FOR THE GOOD OF THE RESTAURANT IT BE REPLACED BY SOMEONE WHO IS TRAINED TO ANSWER THE PHONE AND DISPENSE THE CORRECT ORDERS, THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE

An absolute hole in the wall gem. My favorite is the medianoche but really all the sandwiches are good. Good service and nice area. I agree with these posts....its the biggest bang for the buck. For those that don't speak Spanish...well everything cant be perfect in life!
