Steak lovers know there are few pleasures in life greater than cutting into a perfectly seared, juicy piece of meat prepared exactly to one’s preferences.
Nestled in the heart of Nutley, this modern American establishment offers patrons good food, generous portions, and, for the most part, attentive service. A reservation was easily made by calling the restaurant for a party of 5 Saturday night.
Located on Franklin Avenue with a perfect acronym (MEAL: Meet, Eat, and Lounge), my partner, our friends, and I were greeted by the staff upon entering as first-timers. Our table was ready by the window inside a relaxing yet chic vibe dining room and a separate bar.
The varied menu features aged steaks, lamb chops, and pork chops, as well as a number of seafood, fish, and other options.
We started out with appetizers: the Mac and Cheese, Fried Calamari, and Tuna Tartare “Nachos.” Our main meal consisted of Gnocchi, Forever Braised Beef Short Rib (signature dish), Steak Frites, Tuna, and Steakhouse Burger.
The food tasted delicious. The meat was prepared well, packed with so much flavor, and was very tender and juicy. Unfortunately, the tuna was a bit bland. The presentation was amazing and used only fresh ingredients, and it showed. The portions were a good size.
The price was comparable to the area. Our server, Zack, was great as he was attentive, clear speaking, and constantly checking on us. On Fridays, they offer DJ night.
What a fantastic addition to the local dining scene in Nutley, which we could recommend.

First time there, food was just okay. Some things, especially wings were bit on salty side. Steak frites were good. Tuna and pineapple fried rice could have been better. Bit too much salt and sesame oil on rice.

Our first time at Meal and not sure what to expect. Overall, we were impressed. We were greeted right away upon arrival and brought to our table. The ambiance is chic but not upscale with the decorations and modern music. Maybe a little noisy with the music and mostly hard surfaces. The menu options were not extensive, but there were plenty of options we would like. The steak frites and braised short ribs were really good. Our only disappointment was that they don't provide bread or other snacks while waiting for the main course. So, if you don't order any appetizers, you get nothing until the main course arrives.

The filet mignon was excellent! My husband’s NY strip was so fabulous. Alexis, our waitress was fabulous (she gets a 5 Star). She and the other staff were a pleasure. I will definitely go back.

I’ve been to Meal 5 times. So far every single visit has been great! The service is very good. Friendly and attentive. The food is SO good! We are very opinionated eaters, being that we know how to cook! We get very disappointed when we go out to eat and wind up thinking “we could’ve made this better at home”. So far 10 out of 10 for Meal! Delicious. We will definitely be back again and again! And their drinks are good too!!

Burgers and sandwiches are below average fast food is better, very small menu an not clear you have to ask for the steaks or something. NOT kid friendly it doesn’t have high chairs. Honestly the only good thing ws the service the fries and the beer.
Simple book classy the food is phenomenal never disappointed. Love love, love.

Our server was amazing. She didn’t hover but anytime we needed anything she just appeared. We really appreciated it and I hope the tip we left was appreciated as well. The service was great. The atmosphere was beautiful and the food was delicious.
We always come back for their ceasar salad, it’s a MUST TRY. Good food and awesome service!

One of the challenges with eating out post-pandemic is finding both quality and service. Meal in Nutley surpasses this expectation! Don’t sleep on it. From the moment we entered the service was very attentive. The vibe was relaxing; the space felt open yet you had privacy. Everything we ate was fresh and DELICIOUS! We went on a whim and were happy we did. Highly recommend Meal.
