Omg. After getting of a week long cruise. We were craving some spicy soup and since it was like the only place opened(8am) we went. We ordered the army stew, tofu soup(soondubu) and the bulgogi for the kids. The side dishes weren't too bad but the 2 soup dishes were horrible... the army stew hardly had any broth in it, like 2 pieces of spam and 4 tiny pieces of pork belly and for the tofu soup, there are supposed to use the silken tofu but instead they used the firm one.. also it did not taste like any other tofu soup I ever had.. it was.like a spicy squid soup with tofu in it...(if they meant this to be a.seafood tofu soup, it also failed as squid was the only seafood in it) Hanbat in NYC is well known and has been around forever so we expected it to be good.. at.least somewhat decent but this was like the worst korean food I've ever had. The meat for the bulgkgi was not quite right either but the kids didn't mind... just giving 2 stars since the waitress was nice...

I don’t normally leave reviews but the food and service I got were ridiculous this morning so I had to. I ordered a sullungtang 설렁탕 to go and paid like $14. I came home to see literally nothing but the soup and 2-3 tiny meat pieces… I called and asked if this is how the food comes because it was so absurd to me that they would sell something like this for $14, but the lady on the phone told me there’s nothing she can do and 소면 noodle is not included bc it could go bad when togo-ing. I have never heard of that and even if it was the case, she should’ve still let me know ahead since every sullungtang has noodle in it, especially theirs when I dined in long time ago. She did ask me to come back with the food to get the refund at the end and hung up w an attitude.. honestly who would want to go through something like this ever, especially so early in the morning >: (

Very delicious food in a very authentic Korean restaurant. Highly recommend it!

Wow. I love Korean food but the authenticity and freshness of the ingredients and overall preparation is astounding. Highly recommended their yook gae jung. They prepare food with less salt which is very refreshing. This not your edison korean restaurant, much higher end with not high end pricing. Definite long term appeal.

Seolongtang soup wasn't up to their fame. Kahkdoogi was very disappointing. All of our fellow tourists felt the same.

Good food but not so good service. There was only one server working and she just ignored us.

We have been coming to this place for years and celebrated many birthdays and special occasions here. Good is always consistently delicious and service is always friendly. Prices are very reasonable and you get a variety of banchan (Korean appetizers). Definitely worth a try if you haven't been!

Came here for breakfast today. Took my gf to Newark airport for her trip and I was really in the mood for good Korean food. Been here before and surprising yo say never did a review. Well the side dishes or banchan were good. Especially the potato joreum or I guess you can call it a braise. The potatoes were braised perfectly and not over cooked. I am guessing the marinade had to have some soy sauce some sugar and maybe some other secret ingredients (dried kombu?). My point is it's a very simple preparation but it was delicious and again because it wasn't over cooked you understand the kitchens mastery of their ingredients and especially their love for their product. The kimchi was a young kimchi, again the cabbage still soft and crunchy so it was a very nice mouth feel. You can still taste the raw cabbage before it's been fully fermented. The bean sprout salad was good too had a good amount of sesame oil and it always complements that dish well. I got the spicy stir fry pork and octopus. Anyone outside of asian will never understand that combo but it's been a beloved dish in Korea and most of asian for centuries. The fat from the pork and complements the firm octopus meat well. The pork and vegetables have been well cooked almost burnt but that's the secret. The caramelization from the pork fat and sugars from the marinade and vegetables create an other worldly mouthfeel. The crispy bits of pork and the just right cooked bits of pork are a great combination with the rice. I had soondae guk or blood sausage soup. The blood sausage is present in all cooking (poor people cooking) but that's where the best cooks and dishes come from: out of necessity and love. It's not gamy at all, if you haven't you should and I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. The soup is delicately spicy and herbaceous due to the mountain herbs and vegetables that are in it. I know what they are called in Korean but I think it's called bracken. Very healthy and delicious to off set the porkyness of the soup. There is wild sesame seeds which are more fragrant and adds a depth of flavor that you don't taste often. Finally the rice. The rice was cooked in old school caste iron pots: traditional Korean. The rice was perfectly cooked, moist and not over cooked. The magic is what's at the bottom on the iron. The crispy bits of burnt rice, which I've noticed is enjoyed immensely but all Caribbean families and probably all rice eating people. What we Koreans do is we pour some warm water on it, Let it soak and eat it like a porridge. It's good for your stomach especially if you've been eating a lot of flavorful/spicy foods and it's a reminder of your childhood and family. In this day and age we are so quick to point out the differences we exhibit. Food reminds me that we are all the same and more important we all enjoy good food all the same. Thanks to reading my blabber.

I like this restaurant because the dou ga ni tang (ox-knee bone soup) tastes just like my grandma used to cook! With extra green onions. Nostalgic of my childhood. =)Other dishes I also tried are kalbi tang, sum rung tang and gam cha tang (4stars):
