If you don't know how to cook, please don't open a restaurant. Way over rated and led me to believe they bought ratings. Tamaki was totally wrong, spicy fish tamaki looks like moon sand compound and no rice at the bottom. Ramen soup base was bland and worst than instant noodles soup power pack?. Noodle has wrong textures. Chinese operation and no sign of Japanese tradition. The only good thing is the low price since the owner knows its poor quality. 1 star. Don't come here and it should not exist in NJ.

We came here after a cold day out, and the ramen heated us up! Very good atmosphere, but you may not enjoy it as much if you are not a fan of Japanese arts. But also why come here if you don’t like Japanese arts.

Vegetarian options: Have vegitarian options like veggie miso ramen

Kid-friendliness: Have other options, and if they like anime they will have a blast

Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs, and places where you can put the wheelchair

Their food was great! We started with takoyaki (which had 6-8 pieces I believe), and I had their curry and my friends had ramen. They were all pretty good. The decor inside is really pretty. Pretty spacious and clean and well maintained for sure. Would love to be back.

Shokudo is a good place to grab Japanese food: good food nicely presented, good service with whimsical decor that anime fans will appreciate.

Shokudo instantly differentiates itself with its unique ambiance. Upon walking in, you are met with cherry blossom trees, murals, a large rattan lounge chair and lots of anime figures posed at the cashier, behind the sushi bar and in shadowboxes above the booths. The owner's love for Japanese pop-culture definitely shines through. I like how the open dining space is broken up by traditional-looking wooden partitions.

The food is good. We came for an early dinner and ordered:
- spicy tuna roll
- shrimp tempura roll
- rainbow roll
- teriyaki chicken
- teriyaki shrimp
- ramune (Japanese soda)

Spicy rolls at sushi restaurants are generally not spicy at all, I find, perhaps to cater to local tastes. However, the spicy tuna roll at Shokudo was noticeably spicy and to my liking. The vegetables that came with the teriyaki dishes, however, were bitter for some reason. Perhaps they were pre-frozen. Despite this, the food was generally good - I'd give it a 4.5 stars. As you can see from my pictures, everything was nicely plated.

The server was nice enough and we were promptly attended to.

Shokudo is worth your visit. The food is good and the unique atmosphere mixes the traditional and anime culture for an interesting experience. I didn't have the ramen, but I'd like to return to try it!

Service was good but long wait for food due to crowd. Sashimi apertizer was fresh and gyoza was good. Ramen was tasty and good portion for the price. Chashu was done well.
Lots of parking in the lot. The restaurant is located on Highway 17 so heavy traffic around dinner time on weekdays.

The ramen was pretty good. I got a tonkotsu pork ramen and my partner had a ginger chicken ramen. We shared a Manhattan monkey roll. The sushi was better than the ramen in my opinion.

Atmosphere was nice, there's lots of figures around the restaurant from anime and video games that are cool too see.
