Traveled from North Carolina to New Jersey/New York for my yearly trip, one of my friends recommended la fortaleza for dinner and I was very excited to come here along with my family. Upon arrival one of the main things that caught my attention is how unsanitary the place looks but still decided to give it a chance. A few of us ordered cemitas and the rest ordered things such as the molcajete, carne asada plate and Camarones a la diabla. The food took forever to come out and when it FINALLY came out we realized we were missing a few items, we told the lady who seemed to be the owner or some sort of manager about it, but still the molcajete took too long which is why we decided to make it to go sense we had already ordered it. The individuals who ordered the plates such as carne asada and myself noticed something unusual with the beans in our plate, I smelled them and immediately noticed the strong spoiled/rotten smell. I brought this to the attention of the mean lady working there and she was shocked upon hearing that she’s serving spoiled food items and stated that they were not spoiled - I literally have them on my plate how about you take a look or smell them so u can realize that YOUR FOOD IS SPOILED. At this time I am STILL WAITING for my molcajete. We expressed our concerns but just got a mean look and disrespectful answer from that lady who still charged us for all the food and walked away upon hearing our concerns. Finally my Molcajete came out after how long? About 45 minutes. One of my guests who ate the beans vomitted right after we left the place but we decided not to come back and say something to avoid getting a disrespectful/mean reply from that lady. This was honestly the worst experience I’ve had at any restaurant in this area. I left a one star review because google will not allow me to leave a zero star review. Will not be coming back and will not recommend this place to anyone. Hope they can take this review and improve upon their sanitation and the way they TREAT COSTUMERS.

The food and services are good. But they only accept cash. No credit card but on the door said they take visa/ master card.

A Mexican Vacation in Passaic! Skip the chain restaurants and fast food. You get real Mexican food prepared just for you by people who actually care. The small business, dedicated staff take great care of you. The servers are knowledgeable and will not serve you anything too spicy unless you ask for it. They also have beer and cocktails available.

Food is very good, enjoyed the meal and will return. This is my 5th visit there this year. Very festive inside and the employees are great. The food has a American swag to it, so it is not exactly authentic, but this suits most Americans.

My friend took me here to celebrate my highschool graduation 2 years ago. The restaurant was beautiful and colourful, the servers were friendly and charismatic and the food was great. Could not have asked for a better experience.

This place used to be very good, went today and didn’t know a tip was mandatory. On top of that we got charged for TO GO containers !!!!! First time I’ve ever seen any restaurant charge that. If we didn’t finish the food why should we pay extra 8-10$ to take it home? Won’t ever be going back. Getting greedy. Better of going to the one in hope avenue the cemitas are way better.

First time coming here and was recommended to try this place. Restaurant had great appearance but food wise horrible. DISSAPOINTED! The cemitas bread was stale & the meat was cold with no papalote or frijol. Returned back & ordered something else. When the owner (Leticia) approched us i figured she would apologize but instead approached us in a hostile attitude & demanded us to pay for what we returned & said because it’s the first time she wouldn’t charge us. DO NOT COME HERE YOULL WASTE MONEY & TIME.

Very bad service, they took a long time with the food, not to mention the drinks, we ordered margaritas that did not have ice and we ordered them frozen without flavor, it seemed like thin water, they never come to check if you need anything, we had to get up to ask for the bill, they gave us burnt tortillas and The rice was hard and cold, it looked like it was days old and they still charge the tip.

To be honest, the food is delicious, but the prices are sky-high. They are not clear either when placing orders. We ordered 2 non-alcoholic drinks and in the end they charged us 40 USD and it turns out that they give you the drink in They have one glass to sell and they don't tell you, I felt cheated because I wasn't interested in buying those clay jugs ?. Total consumed for 3 main courses $394 usd, not even in the Mahathan Restaurants have I paid that. The truth without words.
