Let me preface this review by saying that this restaurant meant a lot to my wife and her family growing up. They had birthdays there, graduations there, any important life event was celebrated there. When I went there in 2018 for the first time, the environment was a time capsule (in the best way). White table cloth ambiance, delicious food, and wonderful service. The waiter even recognized my wife and asked about her family. That magic is gone. However, all that being said, I want to be as unbiased as I possibly can to this establishment. The ambiance is a little weird, more of a bar/lounge than an actual restaurant. There was loud electro/house music being played from a DJ set-up at 6pm on a Sunday. The music continued through the night and was not an environment for an intimate dining experience. The decor had some remnants of the old location, but felt a bit drab and confused with the remodel. The menu seemed to be a mix of Spanish fare (mofongo) and some of the old Portuguese dishes. We ordered a shrimp appetizer and calamari, and most of us had some sort of steak entree: skirt steak with chimichurri, Portuguese Sirloin steak, and risotto. The food was very disappointing: the steak in the risotto was still raw, and the sirloin was less than half an inch thick and completely well done and tough (we ordered medium). The sides were bland as well. Before we paid, the bartender offered us free shots, which we did accept. The other drinks we had were fine as well.Personally, I think they should change the restaurant name. The name online is Collado Enterprises, but the menu, the street sign, and the marketing all still says “Portuguese Manor”. It feels disingenuous to benefit of the name recognition of Portuguese Manor, an establishment with history within the community, when it’s now a completely different business. Looking on their social media page, I’m guessing this is meant to be more of a bar/lounge/club than an actual sit down restaurant.Overall, the dining experience was lackluster, and the food wasn’t good. It’ll never capture the magic of the previous iteration of Portuguese Manor, but even without the context of the previous version, it was not a good experience. Poor and confusing ambiance, and bad, overpriced food… The service was alright, but it’s not enough to make up for everything else.

I haven’t been to the Portuguese Manor since 2018, so I went assuming it would be just the same. Imagine my surprise when I entered and there was loud house/techno music playing…Although the atmosphere was completely different now (there was a DJ booth!), we decided to stay and see if at least the food would be good. The menu was completely different. Almost nothing carried over from the original Portuguese Manor. Plus, there was a lot of food that wasn’t Portuguese at all, like Mofongo. All the steaks our table ordered were either completely overcooked or completely undercooked. The food didn’t have much flavor, and it was all very overpriced for the quality. Its clear the new management is trying to attract a completely different kind of clientele— perhaps trying to attract a trendy and young crowd. I just felt duped because they kept the same name. What used to be an upscale dining experience in Perth Amboy is now a place that looks like it would serve hookah. Very disappointing, but my mistake for not doing more research before going. If you’re looking for the old Portuguese Manor, avoid this place.

Horrible customer service! No one ever answered the phone and I waited outside over an hour for the place to open! The prices and hours are wrong on the website. The nerve of them to raise the prices for smaller portions and not provide better service. Highly disappointed with the new management!!! Save yourself the aggravation and go elsewhere.

I have to say I love this place!!! Been going here for 20 years. They have a new owner but still they don’t disappoint. I was a little skeptical not gonna lie. Owner is very friendly and hands on. Staff is always there with a smile and greet you with one as well. I just ordered some stuffed salmon and hash potatoes. This was so delicious. It was well seasoned. The stuffing was breaded along with more seafood and vegetables. You have to try the shrimp salad also. FYI, they are definitely not stingy with the seafood. Sorry, I did the mistake of eating the food before I left this review. But still take my word for it’s delicious.Vegetarian options: Vegetable mealsParking: Plenty of places to parkKid-friendliness: Family orientedWheelchair accessibility: It is wheelchair assessable

Very quiet, he does not want to listen to Latin music and have space without crowds of people.

I ordered a takeout one week ago. Cost was $104.49. All of it went to garbage. Totally un-edible.I used to order same thing for years under the old ownership, it was delicious and I never varied the it because it was so good. If I could give no stars there would be none. It is a sad thing that such a place went under.

If I can leave ZERO stars…. I definitely would. This place i believe changed management and their service has gone to complete SH!T!!!!! They have these women behind the bar who dont care about providing any type of customer service, but expect to be given a tip. If you try calling your order in, dont even bother. I called 28x and when i complained, they literally laughed. This place lost a regular.

Was not happy with this restaurant. The food was not really authentic Portuguese food, what we did get was not appetizing. If you are looking for traditional Portuguese cuisine this is not the place. The sangria was ok. The place smelled old and musty. For the money we spent it should have been better.
