Overall, admittedly, our visit was quite lackluster for a restaurant like Poached Pear that is frequently mentioned among the best restaurants in New Jersey. My entree - the duck off of the standard menu - lacked a flavor punch that I've had at other restaurants. The temperature was good, but the overall dish was a bit bland. Not sure I'd be in a big rush to return to this venue.
My husband and I had never been to this restaurant and were visiting family and booked it for a Friday night. It was one of the best restaurants we've ever been to. The service was impeccable and the food absolutely delicious. I had the corvina fish special with artichoke and tomatoes and my husband had the lamb shank. Both were delicious and very large portions. We also had appetizers: mushrooms in puff pastry and mushroom soup. Yum!! The atmosphere was casual but elegant,...
Excellent crab cakes, duck confit raviolis are good as well but lacked the confit, gnocchi was cooked perfectly, veal vol a vont was also very good(ask for extra sauce). Not a big dessert fan but leave room @ The Poached Pear. Beware the portions are enormous.
