I’ve gone to this bagel place for a while now as it’s a minute away from my job, they’re a bit questionable with touching money with gloves and then going for food but today when it happened after watching the person handle MULTIPLE peoples cash, they reached for MY bagels and when I questioned the person if they had changed their gloves they admitted to not having changed them and was about to take the bagel back, when the LADY who i assume owns the joint decided to argue with me saying he didn’t touch anything else & then backtracked that he only touched money with his right hand when I watched him handle MY money with both hands. Proceeds to yell at me asking if I want it or not & saying she will not remake the bagel. As she’s giving me the refund she’s complaining to me about not saying anything earlier as if that’s my job and says they’re “so busy” with only one person behind me. I ask if they’re too busy for food safety and she said YES. absolutely disgusting & unhygienic.

First time visiting this store. There were two young kids and an adult working. I had to repeat several times that I wanted one chicken cutlet and a cold hoagie roll so that I could make a sandwich later that day. They couldn't understand what I wanted. Thought that I wanted them to make a sandwich when I clearly told them what I wanted. The girl held up two cutlets and I said no I just want one. I get home and I have two cutlets and they weren't even good. I threw the second one out. Plus The kid working the register messed up the previous customers order pricing and just shrugged it off. Poor communication between the employees also.

Owner waited on me and made my lunch with 1 glove on ....this was just after handling cash at the register. Not hygienic when handling food.

After my third negative experience here I feel an honest review is warranted. I have only ever ordered plain bagels with cream cheese and a coffee here. Pretty standard and in NJ (especially from a place called “Goldbergs”) you would expect an edible bagel and decent coffee. NOPE. The coffee is off- acidic, wrong temp and once even they put in spoiled cream. The bagels are inconsistent. Today I actually thought I was being pranked. Basically a dense, slightly raw bagel smooshed and with like an entire package of cream cheese on it.
Go back to bagel school.

Goldberg’s Famous Bagels in Pompton Lakes, NJ, is a gem worth visiting! My experience here was nothing short of phenomenal, and I’m happy to share my thoughts.

First off, the location is super convenient with plenty of parking inside the plaza, which is a big plus for anyone familiar with the parking challenges in this area.

The staff are absolutely wonderful—courteous, respectful, patient, and extremely welcoming. Their friendliness makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. A younger gentleman, who I believe might be the owner or manager, was particularly helpful. He went above and beyond to recommend a bagel option for me when the one I originally wanted was out of stock. His recommendations did not disappoint, and I truly appreciated the effort he made to ensure I had a great experience.

Though I visited after lunchtime, which explains why a few options were unavailable, it’s understandable given the popularity of the place. Even then, the overall atmosphere and the attentive service more than made up for it.

The bagels themselves? Amazing. Fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you’d expect from a place with "famous" in the name.

All in all, Goldberg’s Famous Bagels deserves five stars for their fantastic food, excellent service, and welcoming atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back, and I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great bagel experience!

I can't help but wonder if the negative reviews are related to language-related discomfort.
The bagel was perfect- a crusty exterior and chewy interior. Coffee was excellent, fresh and screaming hot. The eggs/bacon on my sandwich were prepared with attention to detail. The young lady spoke about 10 words of English.and executed perfectly. Amazing what eye contact, a smile, and "thank you" can do to make some one feel heard and appreciated. Great place with a few tables for those of us who want to hide for a few minutes.

The owner of the bagel store was extremely rude and nasty. When we complained about there service her answer was "well what do you want me to do about it?!" If you don't like it get out of my store immediately. I have other customers to take care of. Very impolite and could care less about trying to make it better. Then while the line was long she took time out to make breakfast for her husband instead of tending to the other customers. Even her husband chimed in with rude comments. Very unprofessional. I would never recommend this bagel place to my worst enemy. Even her employees looked uncomfortable and nervous as they shook in fear they were going to do something wrong and get yelled at. I felt extremely awful for them. 1000% THUMBS DOWN 👎👎
