In the mid-60's my mother would take me for a sub before my braces were tightened. In those days we would have sore teeth for a day or so after. It was fun to take my wife (a southerner) to Elsies so she could taste a real sub. Great memories. Live in FL plan to visit my old neighborhoods in NJ, will stop in. It has been 20 years.

Fantastic! We shared a bunch of subs (all pickle instead of bread) the tuna melt on a pickle was 10/10. They are cash only but have an ATM

I always stop here when I am home visiting. From the sound of the wooden screen door to the smell of the subs. It always makes home feel more like home. Don't ever change.

They don't wear gloves or hair nets. It's also a dog there very unsanitary.Dietary restrictions: It's disgusting here

Talk about a place going down hill. Elsie’s was once known for a good sub. No more. Usual size roll, but skimpy filling not like it used to be, which was loaded. Not skimpy on what they now charge $13-$15. Yikes! I understand prices going up but that’s not the problem here. Brennan’s subs cost less but are stuffed with meat and the place is beautiful. Even WaWa does a better job. I think the problem is Elsie’s is now run buy young adults who are basically stingy when it comes to others but not shy on wanting to be paid a lot for what they do. I’ve encountered this before. Anyway Elsie’s is no longer on my place to go list.

I say there is No Way I Can Finish the Whole Thing…But I Always Do ??? Support your Local Mom & Pop Restaurants Cause if you Don’t your Favorites Could Disappear !!! Cash Only ATM inside Large Paid Parking in Rear or Park on Monmouth Street All Paid Parking. If I could give 0 stars I would. How can such an unsanitary place get away with this. NO gloves, NO hair nets, FLIES… we ordered a cheesesteak and then “cooked” the meat in a MICROWAVE. I would not eat there… I don’t know if it was the old lady and young boy working there who own it but they need to be inspected. There were dog treats on the counter where the food was, the meats weren’t wrapped properly so there was probably a bunch of bacteria getting on it. For health reasons.. please do not eat here. I’m sure it was amazing once upon a time but they are slacking and it’s going to kill someone one day or get people sick
