Been coming here since it opened many years ago. Today we came for lunch to celebrate a birthday. I was so surprised at the portion sizes. The tacos were half empty, literally 2 teaspoons of beans a very small portion of rice. The meal was perfect for a 5 year old! Shameful. Certainly not a way to attract repeat customers. Too many other Mexican restaurants in the area. Maybe this is why there was only one other customer.

Unfortunately this place went downhill a lot. Haven't been here on quite a while but when I found out I'd be in the area I couldn't resist going to one of my favorite places. I should have resisted the urge. Nothing was good or tasted the same. The salsa they gave you was watery and not chunky, it didn't even stick on the chip. They meals were only lukewarm despite being served with pot holders. The food was bland and tasteless. The mole sauce was not even warm and was coagulated. Potions have gotten smaller and toppings were skimpy. The quality is just not there anymore. Service was also very slow and they were not even busy.

One of my favorites ever since I was a kid. The chimis are just unbeatable. Chips and salsa (free!) are fresh and out of this world. Prices seem high, but not compared to anything else in red bank and probably because I remember when you could get the same thing for $12 20 years ago. Highly recommend. This is the pinnacle of American Mexican food.

P.s. sorry about the photo, meant to get this before I ate but literally could not resist.

We had dinner with friends. I had the steak strip chimichanga, and so did the other gentlemen in our foursome. We have been going here for 40 years and love it. When they opened Juanito's 2 down the road from us, we started going there, but whenever we were in the area, we like the original. Our friends said it will be a regular for them now too.

Parking: We parked in the train station for free.

Another restaurant jumping in with these ridiculous money grabs!
First...a $6.50 non-cash surcharge as a line item right on the bill! How do they even know I'm not paying cash?
Then a 22% tip that they conveniently included for me. Plus that 22% was on top of the inflated amount with the non-cash surcharge!
Credit card fees are a cost of doing business. What makes these restaurants think that it's okay for the customer to pay THEIR business expenses?
As far as the tip, how about you let the customer decide how much they wanna leave the server?

After having dinner, we were paying our bill and a roach crawled up on the table. So sad, this is one of my favorite places to eat.

The chicken burrito was not good…it was bland and needed some flavor. Everything else I got needed some salt and more flavor. I would not recommend.

The waiter was fine but the food was over priced unseasoned and very bland and gross. 3$ "sharing fee" and a 6 percent service fee. Absolutely atrocious do not recommend.

Update 2024
We went back and actually dined in the dining room- such a wonderful atmosphere! Food was still good, and the service was friendly. I ordered the chimichanga tapatia and would absolutely order it again. So flavorful, and packed with veggies and meat. Even the rice and beans it came with were super flavorful. My husband ordered fajitas off the specials menu and was a little disappointed- the seafood was a little dry and the whole dish overall didn’t have a lot of flavor. Salsa was delicious!

Give you 1st free chips and salsa (not spicy, but I just added hot sauce to each chip). I would go back if I was in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go.

burrito loco was the best dish. Fish tacos were okay and came with a side of the chipotle sauce.

Skip the fried ice cream. Didn't have that crunchy exterior that you crave when ordering fried ice cream. Maybe try the churros?

Also - they're byob. Do what you wish with that info
