From the moment we walked in, the aesthetic of the restaurant was cool, modern, and inviting. The place was spotless, and the vibe made the whole experience feel special without being pretentious.
The staff was warm, friendly, and knowledgeable, guiding us through each course with care. Every piece of sushi was beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and packed with flavor. You could truly taste the quality in each bite. The premium omakase was a perfect mix of artistry and taste — well worth it.
Butterfish is a gem in Rutherford, and I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend for anyone who loves sushi done right.

My husband and I wanted to try Butterfish after hearing of its impressive reputation and let me tell you - it EXCEEDED expectations. I called the night before to make a reservation and the receptionist was kind and helpful. We were greeted with a warm welcome and escorted immediately to our table. At this point, we got to meet Marilyn. She was a true professional, and really set the tone for our dining experience. I had my heart set on the Jalepino Yellowtail Ceviche before I even arrived so of course that was my first selection. 100000/10!! We went on to order a few different items to try and all were simply PERFECT! I took notice fairly quickly of the atmosphere of the restaurant. The manager JoJo, who I eventually had the pleasure of meeting personally, was circulating all night. He was welcoming new customers, interacting with dining guests, running food from the kitchen, and coordinating the rest of the staff - all with a warm smile on his face. The customer service experience at Butterfish is unmatched. I have never had a meal out quite like this. My belly was full and my heart was warm when I left this place. Anyone who has the opportunity to eat at Butterfish and meet the team there, is a truly lucky person. Thank you Marilyn, JoJo & the wonderful staff! I cant wait to come back.

And don’t sleep on the drinks!! Creative and refreshing. We tried the cherry blossom and melon yuzu drinks. They were both delicious.
Last but not least - the one thing better than the food and drinks was the manager and our host Jojo! He made our dinner unforgettable. Can confidently say he upped this experience from great to amazing through his friendly, warm hospitality. Thank you Jojo!!

Jojo, the owner, went above and beyond! He came and thoroughly explained the menu, made sure we were comfortable, and even sent out some extra dishes for us to try. You can tell he really cares about the experience and the food. And Ryann, our waitress, was amazing!! She was super friendly, on top of everything, and just genuinely helpful the whole night.
