Best LBI fishery. Great products and people.
We always buy bulk clams to make clams casino. This was the first time we bought from surf city fishery they were very pleasant on the phone and we decided to make the drive all the way from the south end of the island. The place was a little rundown and clearly had seen better days. The price was a little steep at 60 bucks per hundred but we were initially impressed when they checked every Clam as they were counting them out.
We always soak overnight in freshly collected seawater to allow them to clean themselves. The next day was the first sign of trouble when we found nine dead. Scrubbing and sorting, we found that we were short at 11 and by the time it was time to shuck and prepare the casinos more had died for a total of 32 out of 150 lost or shorted. This was a huge disappointment, we always expect some loss from broken shells or dead Clams, but 21% is ridiculous.
Google says open, but not open. I’ve run into this problem before. Waste of my time!!
Simply superb!
Excellent selection to choose from. I went with the halibut and the guys cut it perfectly for me -- 2 pounds cut it into 5 to 6 ounce portions. The whole family thought it was fresh and delicious.
Great seafood, great service.
Every year I come to LBI, I have to stop here. They have some of the freshest seafood on the island and the customer service is amazing. Every year I call ahead to see what they got and Marty is always excited to give me the rundown. This year I was specifically looking for cherry stone clams and he explained the history of clams to me so instead of cherry stones, I went with the top necks. I came in and everyone was super pleasant and Marty greeted us with a smile. Give this place a try!My family travels from PA and VA and this is one place we HAVE to go to. Thanks Marty and his team for the continued years of great service & high quality fish.
Mussels were super fresh and made our pasta delicious. Out of two pounds of mussels only a couple of them weren’t viable. Satisfied customer.
So, let me start with this. The seafood is, fresh, fresh, fresh. I ask my family to stop here often on our annual vacation camping in Tuckerton. So, if you love real seafood, come here. Let me add this, after 9/11 this place played patriotic music and now mostly plays country music. I love both. But, I have a few complaints. The owner is pretty grumpy. If this doesn’t matter to you and all you are about it the freshness of the seafood, get your dinner here. I’m serious. I do. But, some of the charm has been lost. My Nan used to make something called crab salad. She called it crap salad - because she was Nan. This place used to make it, long after any other place stopped making it. I would have come here every day during my vacation to have it. They no longer make it. Also, they make the best mussels! Except that the mussels seem to be full of pearls. I know pearls are only supposed to be in oysters. But, I swear they are in the mussels here. I love their sauce so much that I continued to order them. But, I just had to stop. I 2as in danger of breaking my teeth. The deep fried soft shell crabs are still the best on the Island. My doctor has made it clear that I am to not longer have gluten ever. I follow his advice and never consume it. The soft shelled crabs at this place are the exception. I kind of wish that if this place were to be Old School it would be Old Scool. I swear if they ever bring back the crab salad I’ll eat here all the time. It occurs to me that some people who are younger than I might want to know what I am talking about here. Crab salad is a summertime treat made from fresh BLUECLAW crab with sweet onion and celery with a bit of mayonnaise. It was deemed to be evil during that weird period when low fat was the thing. But, outer people who went to the Jersey Shore many years ago lived on it when they could afford it. They may have died from cigarettes. But, they lived longer with every serving of crap salad.
Been going here for over 30 years. Brothers are great, helpful, very knowledgeable. Fish is fresh, local, and always tasty!
