First timer. Just came in for a dinner. Gorgeous place, beautiful decor, lovely jazz band, nice servers. Food - not bad, but overpriced for the quality. And, it was - cold...
They were very busy and something really went wrong with management of that night. You could palpate the stress of staff. We were sat for our 7:30 reservation at 7:50. The food was served cold, and the steak was given without a steak knife. The drinks were very late, finally served the end of the dinner. We were not charged for them or appetizers, so the management really was trying their best to correct whatever mistake was made to make it a very strange dining experience, given the appearance and grade of the place.
I will try them again, when its not a pre-Christmas craziness. Hope it gets better, the vibe and the design is really outstanding.
Friday night after work, terrible service, screaming kids running around and jumping off of things. Every time I try and give it another chance, it disappoints. Avoid.
My family and I came here to eat and was very impressed with Alexis was very nice and make sure our order was right. Awesome drinks and service.
It was a cool spot for drinks.
Great food & service! Had a wonderful time in the beer garden, drinks were delicious
Liam our mixologists gave us wonderful recommendations, great conversations, and even tried out new tasty drinks on us. The ambiance was lovely at the Pump House. Would definitely recommend for a lovely evening out!
I will never come here again. The service was mediocre at best. I had to go to the window to order my own food. When my food did eventually come, it was cold. I paid for cheese to be put in my eggs and they brought my cheeseless eggs. I asked for steak sauce it took 15 minutes to get it. THEN on top of that they added on a $20 tip after I left. Basically, stealing money from me after I purposely wrote 0.00 on the tip line and signed the original bill for $117 I checked my credit card statement a few days later $138 was charged! Ridiculous.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Great bar, fantastic location& setup but needs a few things to make it a “regular” - 1) more small plates for sharing/ happy hours 2) more vegetarian options 3) some kid-friendly options & prices
A friend recommended this place - so thank you Lars! Beautiful environment, decor, and service. Ate at the bar, beautiful bottle of California wine, my husband ordered East Coast oysters and Flat Iron Steak Frites I chose the Crab Cakes and Roasted Chicken. Both dishes were perfection. Service is outstanding... They also have a beer garden that offers more casual fare I have yet to stop in but my neighbors rave about it I will be back and soon!
The food was delicious and the service impeccable! Definitely going back.

Came across Village Hall yesterday and glad I did. Great vibe best beer selection around, scrumptious eats. I'll be back.
I must say, I was quite excited to try the food at Village Hall Tavern however I was quite underwhelmed. If it were not for the wait I may have reconsidered writing this review. I waited for almost 2 hours for a side of French fries and my entree. As for the cocktails, I was utterly ashamed to put my lips to the glass. 15 dollars for a lazily crafted cocktail in which I had to wait approximately 17 minutes for us unacceptable. While the wait staff was considerably friendlier than I would’ve expected, it did not make up for the lackluster dining experience nor the unfathomable cocktails.
The food was excellent top of the line service,my server Andrew was awesome and very pleasant.I would recommend anyone to eat here.
Nice new spot in South Orange. We dined in on easter Sunday. The beer and cocktail (mezcal + lime/apricot) we had was good and the food was delicious. I had the squash risotto and my kids had the burger. My husband liked the pretzel crusted crab cake.
We moved from NYC 4+ years ago and we love the ambience- saw a previous reviewer grade this place on being loud - it’s a beer garden/tavern it’s supposed to be loud! lol.
Improvements needed:
Now wait staff could be better - attention to detail a bit lacking, wrong bill, sub par knowledge on the menu. Also i think they should have a kids menu- it’s SOMA! Kids run these towns.
Other than that, we like it and will definitely be back.
“Beer hall” seemed unappealing, loud and unwelcoming. Not so much a beer hall as a bunch of high tables in a loud crowded room with Tv. I will give this place some time to sort it out.
