We had high hopes for this place, we loved boils. Also, based on the reviews we didn’t think it could be bad. We gave this place a try. We noticed the pricing was different, for example, mussels and clams were priced by lbs instead of by the dozen. Prices seemed higher than most boil places but we never mind paying extra for good food. We ordered snow crabs, clams, mussels and shrimp (head off), with side of corn cob and sweet potato fries. We also ordered the fish and chips basket. We chose the capt loui sauce, mild.
The food lacked flavor. Which we were surprised since it appears to be inspired by Louisiana. It was all oil. Despiste seeing garlic, the food was just bland at best. It was just drenched in oil, no flavor but the oil. Even the corn lacked that sweetness. Personally, I enjoyed the fish and chips basket more but that was still not great. It was ok. The food is not bad, but it’s not great. It’s not a place I would recommend or come back to.
We were disappointed. We ended up stopping by jolliebee afterwards.

It was very nice the people were amazing and the food was good and I loved the service and had a great time I recommend coming here I can say it better than hook and reel it taste really good so come here because it’s pretty awesome.
My girlfriend was really wanting to try out a seafood boil but did not tell me about it. I stumbled upon this place and she loved it, and gushed about how I read her mind. So it's impossible for me to rate it anything lower than 5 stars.

While the quality of many other restaurants in NJ has noticeably gone down, the quality here has actually gone up. The seafood is always fresh, perfectly cooked, and seasoned with bold flavors. Service is consistently attentive without being overbearing, and the overall dining experience is reliably excellent. When I talk about “quality,” I mean the seafood itself—it’s clear they take pride in sourcing and preparing it right every time.
Food was a little more expensive than other Crab Boil places but it was very tasty, I would definitely go back again

I was very disappointed. I had the lobster roll which was served on a hot dog roll basically. The lobster roll was tasty but simply too small for the amount of money. Furthermore, my partner had the fish and chips. The fish was a big size frozen fish stick…nothing special at all.

Wow ! Love this place and it’s BYOB . Great prices . Server was extremely nice and patient with my and my lady . We’re definitely coming back . It was a fun experience and good music playing

AMAZING!!!! THE BEST BOIL IVE HAD IN A VERY LONG TIME. i tried hook and reel a week ago and didn’t like it so i gave this one a try and WOW!!!! Never going back to that other place

I went to this captn lou on 5/31 and was not pleased with my food. In past orders, my seafood was tasty with good portion. This time, I got a 2 pound seafood broil which consisted of a pound of crab legs and pound of shrimp. I barely got two clusters of crab legs and it looms like some of the legs were broken off. The shrimp were not deveined and hard to come out the shell. I will not order from here again
Updating my review from 10mos ago, as the quality at this restaurant has gone down. The food was okay tasting this time. The ambience isn’t as nice with how bright the sun comes in the window during the day. I previously came in the night. The seafood is not cleaned at all in any shape or form, had the shrimp and when I broke it, a bunch of poop from the shrimp fell out. Which only makes me concerned about how much poop I may have consumed from the soft shell crab. Which also had a fishy/rank flavor and not clean/seasoned. Drinks also should be cheaper granted that they dont offer alcohol. Also there was only one server and she was a bit slow and never checked back in or asked how we were doing. Also this place should offer bread or something for as long as the wait is.
