“Stopped by MorningStar Café in Toms River and loved it! The veggie omelette was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, and the hazelnut cold brew was smooth and refreshing. Definitely a great spot to start the day!”

Allergy alert! The food itself was great, there was a wait, but that happens. What I can’t understand is how, after telling my waitress that I had a sesame allergy, I was served “parmesan smashed potatoes” with sesame in them—an ingredient not listed anywhere on the menu or in the dish description.
I always double-check new foods before eating, but in this case the sesame was hidden at the bottom of the dish. I didn’t realize it until after I had already eaten a good amount. Mistakes happen, and I can forgive that. What I can’t forgive is being expected to pay for the meal after I had to rush out to deal with an allergic reaction.
The restaurant only comped our coffees. At the very least, they should have covered the whole meal. Allergies aren’t just minor mistakes—they can be life-threatening, or at the very least ruin someone’s day. It just doesn’t sit right that I had to pay for food that could have sent me to the hospital. Poor customer care and service.
Edit: The restaurants response shows their clear lack of accountability. I’m well aware of the difference between nuts and sesame. I told the waitress both sesame and nuts. The person I was dining with confirmed that is what I said. The restaurant was clearly understaffed or serving beyond their means as there was a 30 minute wait to be seen by staff after being sat despite not all the tables being filled.
I should have known there was a lack of attention to detail when the tables next to me both received incorrect orders. One made a complaint and then received their order incorrect for a second time. Apologize for not bringing the concerns up during the time of my allergic reaction, I had to rush to get my Benadryl and EpiPen.

We were a party of 5 for dinner. We ordered and shared a few salads and the cauliflower appetizer which immediately impressed us all. 3 ordered specials of the night, Halibut on a bed of celery root purée with roasted Brussel sprouts, AMAZING dish! 2 of us had the Salmon over a lentil salad, very delicious. The fishes were cooked to perfection. This is a BYOB which is nice. Great service, I will be spreading the word about this gem!

What a phenomenal hidden gem in Toms River. 5 of us who had never been to Morningstar treated ourselves to dinner. Our server was very sweet and knowledgeable. We ordered cauliflower “wings” with harissa honey for the table - amazing. In addition, we ordered a lemony caesar and a berry/goat cheese/arugula salad for the table. Each one was incredibly tasty and the portions were generous. Two people ordered a perfectly cooked salmon dish on top of a warm lentil salad. The other 3 had the halibut special served over a celery root puree with brussel sprouts and some kind of chutney. Each bite was perfection! There are very few mom and pop restaurants that have something for everybody, aren’t serving the same old pasta dishes, and deliver outstanding food. Hands down, my new favorite restaurant!! All 5 of us will absolutely be back. I can’t wait to return for their breakfast!

An unassuming place deep in a strip mall, but this might be a top three breakfast place I have ever been to. Really, really good coffee and a combination of delicious standard breakfast, fancier brunch, and Mediterranean plates. Very nice folks working there. Can't wait to come back!

This is my second visit and they were both wonderful experiences. The service is friendly & attentive. The cold brew is tasty and something to look forward to for every visit! I had the corn and chorizo frittata which was delicious and huge! I could only finish half and can’t wait to devour it for breakfast tomorrow. Don’t hesitate to stop by!
