But food to me has always been more than just something to eat. I like to study process.
Fun to me is to be able to be in a restaurant kitchen and talk to the chef while he’s making a dish. I want to be able to see what he’s doing and ask about it.
Why are you taking the dish off the fire so quickly? Why are you using canned peeled tomatoes rather than fresh?
I want to know everything.
To me, process can be just as exciting as being presented with the beautiful and delicious final product.
This evening, I stopped at an unusual pasta restaurant - All' Assassina. https://www.allassassina.com/
They call themselves the killer pasta project.
It’s different. It has an open kitchen. The small dining room is colorful – eye catching.
You go up to the front and order your pasta. You decide what will be added in – mushrooms, capers, tomatoes, chicken, olives and more. And then the chef makes it right in front of you.
The owner told me that not everybody watches. They’re missing out.
This restaurant is offering dinner and a show. And the cooking here is a performance. You get to see what goes into your food and how it is made. It gives you an additional appreciation for what you are about to savor.
All the senses go on alert. You could see it. You could hear it in the pan and you could smell it.
If you are anywhere near Union, New Jersey, check out All' Assassina. But do not just order and walk away. Look. Listen. And learn.
Not everybody likes to cook. But everyone should like to learn. The more you know about what’s in your food and how it is prepared, the more you’ll appreciate good food.
The tastes, the textures. Wow. There was an avalanche of different flavors hitting my mouth all at once.

This new pasta restaurant is really good! You can choose to make your own pasta combination or you can try their signature plates. This is my first time and tried my own pasta dish: rigatoni with olives, mushrooms, grilled zucchini and shrimp on vodka sauce….delicious! And you have to try the tiramisu….really great! Definitely will come back!By the way….they have kids menu too :)

Stopped in here to grab some lunch and left very happy. I ordered the assassino + figlia and breadstick basket. The linguine was made in house, and the dish resembled a puttanesca with tomato sauce, garlic, olives, and capers, with very mild heat. The addition of pepperoni was a really nice touch. Everything tasted very fresh.

If you want to be assassinated by their food, go right ahead. My dinner did not taste good, and my stomach did not approve at all and threw it back out. My kids did not like their spaghetti meatballs either .. I mean, how can you go wrong with that?? Be forewarned! You’re wasting your money here and putting yourself at risk.Edited in response to what must be a not-so-nice response from the owner himself below - i did not need or want a refund, i felt it was more important to let my fellow community members know. I had no idea you just opened up. In that case, there’s plenty of time yet for my supposed “nasty” (but truthful) review to fade into oblivion and for you to get things right. I wish you luck, hope you resolve whatever issues caused my food poisoning and hope you thrive.
So I just had lunch at All' Assassina…it is a new place opened by the same wonderful folks right next to Souvlaqueria. Bottom line…it is amazing. Fresh homemade pasta, fresh sauce, veggies and amazing proteins. The Tiramisu was homemade and amazing as well…definitely will become a staple! I can’t recommend high enough!!

My son and I just had the pleasure of dining here a few minutes ago. The food was absolutely amazing and the level of customer is is beyond excellent! Marinos Stratigakis and his family gave us the warmest welcome! The homemade Tiramisu was mind blowing! The homemade pasta is out of this world and the portions are generous! We had the make your own dishes! My family will definitely be repeat customers!
