The Calamari was the worst I ever had, like chewing leader. We sent it back. Operated for the chorizo dish but instead they gave us garlic shrimp that was way too garlicky, and we love garlic. Our main dishes were Portuguese steak and lamb chops. Those were okay, nothing special. The Sangria was good. The place needs updating, the fake flower trees had their day.
The ambiance was very nice. They had a live singer there throughout my dinner. It was a bit noisy, because they had a large party going on of about 10 to 12 people, but that was okay. The service and the food was excellent! I have to remind myself not to get any appetizers anymore, because I couldn't finish my main course! Lol! I'll definitely be back
Overpriced, small portions, very loud. Automatic tip charge of 20% for a table of 4. Would not go there again.
Party of 2 is an automatic 20 per cent plus a surcharge for paying with card my check was $100 for appetizer and one alcoholic drink…service was terrible!!! Won’t be back
Service was good. Could barely hear my wife over the live music being played. The food was not very good. Whatever sauce they put on the outside of the lobster ravioli bowl stunk. My wife's chicken was bland. Our stuffed shrimp appetizer was okay. If the chocolate mousse and creme brûlée were not so good the meal might have been a complete waste.
Room is too noisy with loud noise from TV which broadcast soccer game. I asked to turn it down a little bit but the manager said no. He said people are watching despite only 3 tables including us ion the room
We eat at Lagar when we're in the neighborhood (we live in North NJ). When flying in/out of EWR we always try to stop in. We enjoy the food, the staff, the “locals” and the wine list!
Our waitress was amazing. The food was great. Had plenty of food had extra to bring back and the drinks are awesome. They did have someone playing on the guitar which probably could've been a little softer so you can hear yourself talk at the tables.
Our first visit here and it was very enjoyable. Our food was delicious and our server was so friendly and informative when we had questions about the menu. We will be back for sure.

Sitting on the patio which was very hot with still air. Even though early May they need some fans in there that flow air better or put some air-conditioning in. The biggest problem was at 5 o'clock in the afternoon on Mother's Day, they had a guy playing guitar who was actually not bad but just playing music - and loud to reach the whole room- that didn't quite fit the occasion (pink floyd?) . In between his sets they played very nice Latin music which would've been great the entire night. We were sitting near the stage so of course it was extremely loud, but I'll blame that on my old age and table location. Service was spotty. Seem like maybe some new people working. Also just a heads up. We were a party of five. They included the gratuity which I don't have a problem with, But they did not let me know. Luckily, I checked. I don't think they were trying to rip me off- but owners, a suggestion, when you drop the check and you include gratuity you should make a very deliberate point to let people know.
The restaurant advertised a Sunday brunch, which was the reason we made a reservation. However, when we arrived, the restaurant wasn't fully open. The staff was rude and asked us to wait outside. Once seated, I politely requested that they lower the volume since we were the only customers. The host responded rudely, stating that we could sit inside if we needed to. They had a DJ for the day. When the waiter came to take our order, I requested the Sunday brunch that was on the menu they had provided us. However, the waiter returned with a different menu, informing us that they had a Mother's Day menu and no brunch. This was quite upsetting, especially since their website didn't mention any changes to the menu for Mother's Day.
😀 Real nice place with great food and sometimes live music.
My boyfriend is Portuguese, and we live in Middletown NJ. We have 2 favorite Portuguese restaurants we go to both in Long Branch. This restaurant made our list of favorite restaurants, so now we have 3 favorite Portuguese restaurants!
First time - great selection of cocktails and food. Cute ambiance. And they did something special for my boyfriends birthday. Katherine our server was great
