We dined in five different restaurants in Bal Harbour. Makoto was by far the best - and the most expensive. We started with the Toro appitizer (represented as Bluefish Tuna). It was bland and tasteless. Not like any Bluefish Tuna I have tasted in the past. It was not worth the high price we paid and our server offered no adjustment. Our next course was the grilled octopus. This was a winner and the best octopus we had in Bal Harbour. For a main course I had the soy marinated Sea Bass and my partner chose suchi rolls.. the Sea Bass was unbelievable! Tender, moist, and delicately flavored from soy and miso. My partner enjoyed her suchi but did not give it a rave review. Lastly, we ordered two glasses of a mid-level Spanish Verdejo. It was not great but food-friendly and acceptable. However, the size of the pours were small, perhaps only 4 ounces. At $18 a glass this is unacceptable. So if you dine here go for the quality of the food but expect to get a big bill and to be overcharged for the wine.

I have visited this restaurant, and I don't believe I would ever come back, and would not recommend to anyone considering dinning there. Noise was unbearable, service incredibly awful, server never was there and multiple times we would need to ask for any type of attendance, no utensils were provided and we had to ask for it or simple thing things like straws for the drinks. And the worst was that from the celling there was a water dropping on our shoulders. A very unpleasant experience.

Wonderful experience! The Robata grilled items were phenomenal. Beautiful crispy but tender octopus. Short rib that melts in your mouth like butter. Wagyu strip steak cut into perfect tiny strips where you get both seared edges and tender middles. Tuna tartare with caviar - perfectly delicate with great textural contrasts. And our daughter could not get enough of the crispy rice. Unbelievable service from Maddie, who also provided plenty of pro tips. Can't wait to return.

Excellent shishito peppers. Great edamame. The rice on rolls not properly done - a bit chewy. We had six different rolls. They were adequate but not excellent. Drinks were very good.

Food has been some of the most consistent in Miami for years. Highly recommend. Service could have been a bit better during this visit but the server was trying, just seemed a bit understaffed.

Everything was fabulous as usual. I had the rice with Wagyu, crispy hamachi, and the most delicious corn. The service was impeccable ! Hector, the maître d',greeted us at the door and gave us the best table, and Walter was an excellent server. Thank you. Cheers 🥂

Makoto is our favorite place to dine, our reservation was at 6pm, we came at 5:55 and a host told us to wait for 20 minutes because no tables available inside (our reservation was made for inside table). After 20 minutes we came back and other host told us that she see that we were on a waiting list, excuse me what? Finally we were sited but the whole experience was ruined.
