This place is a favourite of ours since we moved into the area in Feb of 2023. Good food, awesome atmosphere and the best people you ever want to meet working there!
If there is one thing that would put them over the top in my opinion is utilizing the tvs there for sporting events like NFL games, NHL nights, etc. Man! Would that ever spark some of those dark cool nights with a big influx of friends during the long winter evenings.
Love this place!

I have celiac disease and asked about gluten free options on the menu. I was told I could have a gluten-free bun with my burger. I asked if the soup of the day was gluten-free, the wait staff went to check and told me that it was. I ordered the soup and a gluten-free burger.

When the food arrived, there was a bun alongside my soup. I asked if the bun was gluten-free. The waiter went to the kitchen to check and came back and told me it was not. They took the bun away. I was not offered a gluten-free bun.

A few minutes later, I was several bites into my burger when the waiter returned to tell me there had been a mistake, and the burger bun was not gluten-free. They took the burger away. I was not offered a replacement burger.

The manager came to our table to apologize for the error. I explained that this would make me very ill, within about an hour. A few moments later she returned with the chef, who also apologized. They told me took my information and told me they would go over what happened with their staff to make sure it didn’t happen again. They took my phone number and said they would call me to check on me the following day, and the day after that. They never called.

This is serious. Eating gluten not only makes people with celiac disease very sick, it also causes permanent intestinal damage.

Pizza was good. The turkey burger was weird. Tasted and had the mouth feel of an attempt at vegetarian to the point of not being like any meat burger I ever tasted. Over the top on spices too.

Food was beyond bad, barely eatable. Zero Stars for food!!! The menu selections are not very exciting, I would have to say mediocre. Almost no vegetarian options!
Two Stars for service, we had to even ask for our cutlery, salt and pepper, basically nothing was on the table.
Atmosphere 3, place was the chilly side. The huge front doors were left wide open. It was only about 11 degrees outside and windy. I had to put my jacket back on.

I used to love the stone jug, used to go down and get my favorite meal with very kind hearted servers. but the past year or two something has changed down there. To the point that it is not even fit to eat. Today me and 18 others had a reservation that was pre-ordered since last Wednesday, they had it all a week early and called about any issues for allergies. But the day we get down there it was a different story. let's start with the food, the big jug, an item on their menu stated as a breaded crispy chicken sandwich. When the food came out it was a grilled chicken sandwich with herbs, and when asked about it one of the servers laughed and told us theyve been out of crispy chicken for awhile. Which would've been nice to know, especially since they had a week to tell us before we came in. Then had the audacity to try to get my girlfriend to pay for the meal I sent back when she let them know I brought it back due to us not being told about the change. This place has really gone downhill in the past year, as of now I would never recommend this place until they get there act back together.

The Stone Jug in Carbonear has an undeniably charming atmosphere, with its cozy, rustic décor and welcoming vibe that sets the stage for a pleasant dining experience. It's the kind of place you'd want to sit back, relax, and enjoy a meal with friends or family.

Unfortunately, while the ambiance impresses, the food leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered the nachos, and they were underwhelming at best. The cheese wasn’t melted properly, cheese would fall off the chips indicating the nachos weren't baked long enough. Toppings were sparse, leaving much of the dish bland and unappealing. The chips themselves were a mix of stale and overly hard, making them difficult to enjoy.

Another area where The Stone Jug falls short is in its menu options, especially for those looking for specialty or unique dishes. The selection is quite limited, and if you're hoping for more diverse or creative options, you might find yourself disappointed. For a restaurant that prides itself on quality and atmosphere, expanding the menu to include more specialty foods would greatly enhance the dining experience.

In summary, The Stone Jug has a wonderful atmosphere, but the food, particularly the nachos, and the lack of menu variety, need significant improvement to match the quality of the setting.
