Well-balanced cocktail, outstanding steak and lamb.

WowI’m from out of town and I’m here on a monthly basis, my typical “go to”restaurant WAS Basho, usually with a gaggle of clients in tow, bill commonly totalling well over $1000 each time. On this particular occasion 6:30 PM April 16, I was looking for a table for one, pretty simple request..be it at the bar, high top, or dining room I didn’t care. The place was hardly bustling. The host advised me that he would have to consult the kitchen, 30 seconds later, I hear a blaring. “NO’!.. pretty surprised to be told that they could not accommodate one more person. Equally surprised he was a fact that the kitchen yelled loud enough for me to hear. Definitely did not feel welcome. Definitely will not be going back.

This was our first time visiting Basho. We frequently visit St. John’s and very much enjoy the restaurant/food scene in town. This was one of my favourite meals I’ve had ever! The filet mignon was the best steak I’ve had in St. John’s hands down, the flavour was amazing and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the special of the night which was the seafood steamer, which was mussels, scallops and shrimp in a Cajun cream sauce.. unreal!! He also had the spicy scallop roll which was so fresh and tasty. I can’t wait to visit again!
