I dined in on a business trip to St. John’s and had a wonderful experience. The food was absolutely delicious (Malai Kofta, Onion Kulcha, with each dish bursting with authentic Indian flavors. The staff's hospitality, or mehmaannawazi, was exceptional, making me feel truly welcomed and taken care of. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a taste of India served with warm hospitality!"

Our dining experience at India Gate restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately made us feel at home. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, ensuring that our every need was taken care of throughout the evening. The culinary highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the lamb biryani and chicken pakora. Each dish was a symphony of flavors, expertly spiced and cooked to perfection. The biryani was fragrant and tender, with succulent pieces of lamb that melted in the mouth. The chicken pakora was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of heat to tantalize the taste buds.To round off our meal, we enjoyed a steaming cup of chai tea that was the perfect balance of rich, creamy, and aromatic. It was the ideal way to end our dining experience on a high note.Overall, India Gate restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. From the delicious food to the friendly staff and inviting atmosphere, it was a dining experience that we won't soon forget. We look forward to returning soon to indulge in more of their mouthwatering dishes.

Had a lovely experience. We had the dinner for three and left stuffed with leftovers. Highly recommend this restaurant. It's has been a staple in downtown St. John's for many years and the quality and service as remained high. Even in the middle of the week the dining room was full.

I wasn’t sure about going here based on some of the reviews, but I was extremely pleased that I did. The food and service were excellent, and the inside of the restaurant is much nicer than the outside. Yes, it is a little more expensive than you would pay in Vancouver or other big cities, but well worth the price. Overall, I was very impressed - great Indian food with exceptional service.

The tandoori chicken, laacha paratha, roti and butter chicken were very tasty. Best I have had in St John’s. Service and ambience is also great. I would go back again.I did not like dessert so much though. The saffron cake tasted like a normal tea cake and the gulab jamun was a bit rubbery.I’m okay with the 18% tip but don’t understand why it’s applied on the total bill including hst.

While several of the dishes we ordered were satisfactory, the Vindaloo was thin and watery in the sauce. Butter chicken was fast-food quality; I can make better myself at home, even using a Costco sauce. Service was attentive; even enthusiastic. However, prices and a mandatory added 18% gratuity swelled the bill to almost $90 per person without drinks or wine. The curries are double, even triple in price to offerings elsewhere: $26-$33, versus $10-$15. Hard to see the justification. While I would pay these kinds of prices gladly at a restaurant of the quality of, say, Guru in Edmonton, the food here is undeserving of the lofty price tag.

I still have a pack of matches from the first time I was taken to India Gate. This place is near and dear to me and I have always made it one of my spots to eat when I came home to visit. Thankfully I live here now and I can frequent often! It's always a pleasure to eat here, as the food is so delicious and the service has always been fantastic. Try the butter chicken, it's definitely one of the best, but the pakoras... THE best anywhere. And I've been eating Indian food across Canada for more than decade. Thanks for being the best!!

Starters were good, but the main course left something to be desired, a little expensive. I will not be going there again as I will not return to a restaurant that puts a gratuity on the bill, a gratuity is amount that is decided on by the customer to reflect the quality and service they receive and not a compulsory amount decided on by the proprietor.
