Went to Salt Water Restaurant last night.
The host was lovely and attentive but the restaurant was positively frigid. I was so uncomfortable I couldn’t take pleasure in my meal.

Saltwater in Saint John is an absolute gem! I was there three days ago with my father, and we were both thoroughly impressed. The food is outstanding — fresh seafood, perfectly prepared, full of flavor and attention to detail. Their fish specialties and the creative side combinations are truly exceptional.
The atmosphere is relaxed, modern, and pleasant, perfect for both a romantic dinner and a night out with friends. The staff is extremely friendly, attentive, and professional; they genuinely make sure every guest leaves satisfied.
The prices are completely justified by the quality and the overall experience. If you’re in Saint John and love seafood, Saltwater is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back!

My friend Sheilagh took me out for my birthday supper. She has been there before however it was my first time. The service & the food ( I had the salmon dish she had the steak dish)were excellent. My friend has several allergies & there was not a problem with the chef to solve. I will go back for sure

Always impressed with Saltwater when visiting St. John’s. The shrimp scampi appetizer was amazing - not your usual shrimp sitting in a boat of garlic butter. So many flavour variations. The cod entree was also amazing. Service was great, granted there were only a few of us in the restaurant on an extremely windy week night.
Lovely people, delicious food

I think they may have changed to a limited autumn/winter menu as a lot of dishes I saw posted by other reviewers weren't on offer. I had saved this restaurant for my last night in St. John's and what a huge disappointment it was.
I should have guessed something was up when other restaurants on the street were relatively full and this one only had one other couple in it.
I had the mussels but I'm convinced that they had been frozen as there was absolutely no taste in them and they were quite watery. In fact the chef had overcooked them and they had shriveled up. There were a lot of them but I would have preferred half the portion size cooked properly. Interesting that the waiter never asked us how our meal was; maybe he knew what my answer was going to be. My wife had the chicken wings which were fine.
Another couple attempted to come in at 8pm but the waiter told them that the kitchen was closed. Their website says they're open until 10pm though.

Wanted to try this restaurant when we visited St. John's. It's a very cute place on Water St., comfy and cozy.
It felt like everyone was new at this restaurant and didn't exactly know what to do. We had to summon our waiter x 3 to have drinks refilled, inevitably of which was the wrong order (a stout instead of Coors Light). No big deal, we rolled with it.
Then came our food. It was barely lukewarm, but it was tasty. We again chose not to say anything and we ate it all. By this point, we accepted this wasn't going to be the best meal we had, but we were trying to be grateful and inderstanding if the kitchen was having an off day.
When the waiter asked how our food was, we were honest (I had fish, my partner had gnocchi) and said we were happy to eat it and just wanted the kitchen to know that food could be hotter for other patrons. To be fair, the restaurant did offer to make us another meal, but we had already eaten what was served.
Overall, this restaurant felt like a miss - we have been in town several days and have some amazing dining experiences elsewhere.

The service was slow, the food tasted quite good, but I was turned off by the mouse running around the floor. So we left before we had all finished our meals. The waiter said the mice come and go ??? No compensation or adjustment from staff when asked

Atmosphere seemed a bit confused, dressed like a pub but very high end prices. Our mains were good but aps were okay. We had the mussels but wished there was some sort of bread to get all the sauce up after. Quite expensive. Our server (who was also the bartender) she was amazing though.
