So happy when the The Battery Cafe opened where the old groc & conf had been. Not only is it a welcoming & relaxing place, with a delicious selection of pastries and great coffee, it's morphed into a cultural hub with nightly offerings of music, poetry, storytelling. Love this is in my 'hood.
A great place to sit and chat and enjoy a latte.

Stayed in the Battery back in July, and this was our go-to spot for the week. Drinks and food options are great and atmosphere is so relaxing. You can enjoy your morning tea by the window and look out at the harbor.

Cafes are quality of my life and finding a good cafe as a home or my favorite spot was a challenge for me in st. John's.
Battery cafe has many pros and some cons.
The positives are:
- most of staff are friendly And warm
- the design and place is cozy and warm.
- a good place for meet a friend, or work and study, or just relax.
- arts and supporting artist! This is such a big work that they do.
And there some parts that can improve easily:
- menu is not creative.
- seats could be comfortable and perhaps thats the main issue.
- it closes very soon! So if you are working, and after work wanna meet a friend there, sorry, they are closed.
At last, this place is lovely, and potentially to be the favorite for people.
I hope having numerous customer will not stop battery cafe to improve and become a better place.

The biggest negative is the takeout cups. They constantly leak out of every angle. I end up wearing more of the coffee than drinking the coffee. All around the scene, the lid is just leaking out as it's sitting in my cup holder.

We stopped in on a cold afternoon after having visited Signal Hill.
The cafe has a cosy feel to it. The front section isn't big but there is another section out the back which I didn't see.
The thing that let's them down is the length of time they take to make the drinks. I saw people go up multiple times asking where their order was and the queue stretched all the way to the door. Admittedly it was a Sunday afternoon but they let themselves down by this.
The drinks and limited snacks on offer were fine.

We tried this place out on a rainy day while visiting the city. Hoping for a cosy soup and sandwich lunch. Firstly, the staff are not warm greeters. Staff are behind counter chatting, or standing etc and you are there waiting for an acknowledgment for a while. We ordered potato leak soup and it was not what we expected. It had a Middle East or Indian twist to the flavour (sumac maybe?) and was too overwhelming . We do like spicy or tasty but not in a comfort soup like potato leek. The veggie sandwich pesto also was overly oily and overtook the veggies in the sandwich which were not generous at any rate. We ate about half and left. Not for us. We did have to pop by there after a hike later in the week for a cold drink to go and same, took staff a bit of time to acknowledge that you walked in. Can’t comment on the coffee.

It is the perfect spot to unwind right after watching the sunrise at Cape Spear. We grabbed a table on the patio, which made the whole experience even better. I had a cold brew with their chimi chicken sandwich which was flavourful and satisfying, while my partner had a macchiato and toast. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, exactly the kind of place you want to linger for a while with good coffee and good company.
